Well now Michael... you have a very special name... Mike was my guy's name... and like you he lived a very hard and fast life.. always one early on in life to live life on the edge... and like you he was a heroin addict... vodka... beer anything he could get his hands on... he did slow down.. and was sober for quite a while... many of his thoughts ran along the same line as what you have expressed... for he was quite a live in the moment type of guy...and may I ask who said they wouldn't pay for no more transplants for those with hep c...??? what country... and what organization... would be useful information.. for now... enjoy your moments... what is your meld score?? thoughts and prayers are with you Sandi

Hi, Mikalc/Michael.  Welcome!  Congratulations on your sobriety!!  I can relate very well to your story.  I did IV drugs in the 60s.  Fortunately, I've been clean from hard drugs for 41 years and from all drugs for 24 years.  After I got clean from drugs, I started drinking alcoholically, but I've been sober for 24 years.  By the grace of God, I'm not in end-stage--yet--but I did have liver cancer, diagnosed in '05, and it looked like I would die.  Thanks again to the grace of God and Mayo, I've been cancer-free for 3 years.  They do an MRI with Gadolinium every 6 mos. to keep a check on it.

I would also be interested to know what country/insurance said they are doing no more transplants.  If it's the US and Medicaid/Medicare, it would be news to me.

What on earth is a "lumper?"

Hugs,

Connie

Connie a lumper is a person that moves frieght or lumber on a job site. I was what they call a lumper when I unloaded freight for Wal mart, used to unload trailers and put frieght onto pallets. LOL

Welcome to the forum Michael. I'm sure you have realized you have found a wonderful bunch of people here.

My husband is 46 and was diagnosed with cirrhosis about 5 years ago. He was diagnosed with Hep C about 15 years ago. He also liked to live life in the fast lane. Me I've always been a slow paced kind of girl. People often wonder how we have made it together for so many years. We are a prime example of "Opposites Attract".

I'll be praying for you.

MIke,

Welcome to the forum! I am so sorry you are suffering from this dreaded disease. First of all, like some of the others, I am interested to know, who told you no more transplants for people w/ Hep C. If it's an insurance issue, or lack of insurnace issue, it seems to me that you would qualify for SSD or SSI. If you are here in the states, I would DEFINITELY look into that!

Read the educational posts here and you will learn alot! You hang in there, and take care of you!
