I finally got an answer to my question on how bad my brothers liver disease was. He passed away last night. Nothing I read prepared me for the way he died. My brother and I were both divorced and had become each others best friend so I'm feeling pretty lost. I did get some time with him while he was still in in right mind and I'm grateful for that. We talked and I got one last hug. He reached his  bony little arms up and hugged me for a long time. He was covered in blood but I didn't care. That hug is something I will treasure forever. I spent the next 2 days at his bedside...only left to use the restroom and was holding his hand when he took his last breath. Just thought I'd update you. I'm getting myself upset so I'm going to end this post for now.

I never read your previous post about your brother, but I've just gone back to have a look at it now. It sounds like it all happened pretty fast. My heart goes out to you, to watch anyone die in that way is very tough. I've experienced end-stage liver failure myself, though I received a transplant just in time. It was such a traumatic thing for my family to go through - the confusion and the personality changes, as well as the physical changes which were so dramatic. I hope it is of some small comfort that your brother might not have been experiencing as much discomfort as he appeared to be - I know I appeared a lot worse than I felt when I was at my ill-est, as everything was in such a haze. You must still be in a state of shock at the moment, I hope you have someone around you at this time, and remember you can always come on here to let us know how you're feeling. I think there are probably other people on this forum who've lost loved ones like you have, who might be able to share their experiences.

i dont know what to say. Iv never thought so deeply about the affects a damaged liver can actually have. To think that a life was taking due to a bit of muscle not working properly. i dont know what to say. it brings into perspective how lucky most of us are to be treated and have transplants and suchlike. i hope ur brother led as happy a life as possible up to that point.

I'm so sorry. It is terrible your brother had to go through all of it and you watch it but he was lucky to have you to be with him. God Bless
