I wonder if you can describe your experiences of hep b?

How did you get it?
When did symptoms start and what where they? How long has it lasted and do you still have stinging in the upper right ab even though the doctor said you have cleared it? How many months was that after contracting it?

I think i maybe have contracted it in March but only really getting stinging in upper right abdomen and my stools are floating (possibly slightly more yellow than before but no diorhea). No nausea or weightloss etc. Maybe slight fatigue (sleeping well) but can still go running fine. No loss of appetite either.

As much info about your experience as possible would help...thanks!

Forgot to say i think i have sliightly darker yellow urine but not tea/cola coloured. Caught chlamydia around same time. Think i contracted it (sex) 20th February, then antibiotics for Chlamydia (12th March) stinging abdomen started 17th March and has been on and off since.

Just waiting on the results - been putting it off. I did complete 2 of the 3 Twinrix vaccinations 4 years ago but probably not helped. Liver pain seemed to get worse in the days after physical exertion. Not had any colds etc in the last 3 months but upper right stinging discomfort is worrying

hi Quick,
I contracted hep b many years ago. A few friends and myself were using IV drugs. A couple months later one of my friends got very sick.. He turned yellow, and went to dr.. He notified all of us , to tell us he has hep b. I got tested and found out I had hep b, and passed the virus, by my immune system. the other two had the same results as me. the friend who got very ill, also passed the virus.. 95% percent of infections, regardless of symptoms or lack of symptoms pass the virus by immune response.

You have been tested. wait for your results. your test results will tell your dr, whether you have a acute infection, a resolved infection, or never been exposed..

let me know how your testing comes out. rick was negative for hep b, and treated for an ulcer.

I suffer with a chronic case so want to reply... and answer your questions.

How did you get it?
Don't know. For all I know, I had it most of my life. I was never tested for it until I wasn't feeling right in 2013. That is when they discovered it was most like a chronic case but wanted to watch me for 6 months (as the virus was now active in me). They say most people who are chronic either got it early in life or from birth. Since my mother has been long passed, I would never know if she had it or not.

When did symptoms start and what where they?
I started to notice major symptoms around August 2013.. mine were different. I felt like something was attacking my head/brain. It slowly progressed for a month or two. Rapid weight loss, loss of appetite, extreme tiredness (followed by a 2 week long fight against Insomonia), weakness, tinnitus & itching. Most or all of these have gone away, the tinnitus and itching still remain but are VERY mild to the point where it's bearable. I'm sure there's more I'm missing out on but yeah, those were the worst ones I can recall. Like I said, nothing that was typical of Hepatitis B and when I brought it to my first doctor, he said Hep B wasn't causing this and it was just "anxiety" and in my head. Meanwhile, I've never experienced anything like this in my life.

do you still have stinging in the upper right ab even though the doctor said you have cleared it?
As of 5 1/2 months ago, I still have not cleared it. We'll see the next tests I have or not. I suspect not (based on my having some small lingering symptoms) but I think I'm VERY close.

For me now, I'm waiting for the day I clear it. I've been fortunate enough to be on clinical trials and am so glad they continue for a few years. I try to do what I can and live my normal life again as best as possible (there are some aspects where and when I can't). For me, that includes light exercise, playing ice hockey, doing yoga, hanging out with friends in social settings, etc. The cases that I struggle with are odd cases. Mainly when I need to sit for long periods of time, I struggle since my body is weaker than it used to be. Movie theaters, big concert events, sporting events, etc. I can't do those any more. I just enjoy the simpler aspects so sitting at home and watching these on TV or going to these type of events in smaller settings are good enough for me.

Many thanks for your reply. I am also hoping that i clear the hep b but it has been almost 5 months since exposure. My liver pain disappeared in June for a bit but is still around - just an annoying feeling, i wouldn't say pain. Stool is yellowish and still floating...
I got the antibody check and it seems they are bellow 10 i.e not enough to show immunity/successful clearance.

Does anyone know if liver pain is still around even after body clears it or is it a sign that it will become chronic?

Luckyman - do you have liver discomfort? What does it feel like and when is it more prevalent?

Thankfully, I do not and if I do then I don't notice it. The worst I've had was fatty liver and even that has seemed to subside (as you can see with the numbers in a very long post of mine).

I have my 6 month testing going on this week both Monday and Friday. I'll be curious to see where I'm at. I suspect probably in the same spot as I was before, and if so I'll be taking my next 6 months a little more serious with a good diet + exercise routine I have mapped out for myself.

If you are not chronic, your body should clear it naturally within 6-12 months (Most people 6 months but sometimes it takes a few extra).

Just done a disposable quick rapid test for interest and it shows

HBsAg - neg
HBsAb - neg
HBeAg - neg
HBeAb - neg
HBcAb - neg

Not sure of the reliability of these kind of things but can anyone tell me what this means? Obviously using for doctor for official results but thought this would be interesting...

those set of numbers mean , you have never had hep B.

When do you test again?

Keep in mind that what was done to get those numbers was a "home test". Usually this us just a prick of a finger type of test and the blood gets put on a strip to give the results.

How accurate can those be? I'd wait to see what was drawn by the doctors and an actual blood report from a real lab before making any assumptions... especially after he just said he's 4 months into having Hep B
