As most of you know my husband was approved for the transplant list on January 23rd. Well last Thursday he had an appointment at the transplant hosiptal 1st with the surgin, then he had a abdominal CT scan, and then had an appoint with the hepatologist about 1 1/2 hour later. The doctor went over my husband's medical chart and found that on his second whole body bone scan it showed an abnormalcy in his right knee. So he has to get a CT scan on his knee tomorrow. Then the nurse asked about his seizure activity. Which he has had none since early December. I got a bad feeling when we left there. Well on the way home we stopped to eat and while my husband was in the little boys room the nurse called me on my cell and asked me to call her the next day, that she needed to talk with me. I did. Well the abdominal ct scan showed that my husband's liver tumor has grown. And it probably too big for transplant eligibility and that they believe that there are more tumors also. I had to make an appointmentment with his cancer doctor and that's Tuesday. My husband has to have another chemoebulization. Which may reduce it but it will not do anything for any others that he may have. My biggest problem is how to tell him that they are probably going to take him back off the list. He knows about the chemo. But I haven't told him about the mutiple tumors or that his original one got bigger. I am afraid that if in fact they take him off the list that he will give up. We need a real miracle to get through this one. I have been a basket case since last Thursday. I guess our roller coaster ride isn't over yet. Thanks for listening sad Pink Grandma

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body used up ,totally worn out and screaming"WOOOOHOO WHAT A RIDE!!!"

I too am sorry to read your latest bad news Pink Grandma. You and your husband will be in my prayers as well. It's hard to read anything positive into it so it wil be hard for your husband to accept. Pray that he will accept this news and continue to fight.
Take care of yourself too.

I will be looking for your post later today as to the visit with the oncologist. Where are the other tumors? If they are in the liver, why wouldn't chemoembolization work for them, as well. Is there a reason he cannot have surgery?

My prayers are with you both.

Hello all,
Well it didn't go very well at the oncologist today. His original tumor has grown to a 5.7 and it does look like he has 8 smaller tumors in his liver as well. According to his cancer doctor his billirubin is too high and he has too much ascites in his belly to even do a chemoembulization. He said that my husband could go into liver failure and die. He's ordered another CT on his abdomin for the end of March to confirm the tumors are still there. He said that probably that he can only do chemotherapy, but most doctors don't even think that chemo works on liver cancer. So it appears that my husband might be SOL. They are tentively keeping him on the transplant list until the next CT scan. The only good news today was that the abnormalcy that the full body bone scan picked up on his knee is not cancer..it's an old facture. My husband is upset but he is handling better than I thought he would. Apparently his cirrohsis is just too bad and with that many tumors that probably rules out any surgery. The transplant was our plan A. Now it looks like we have to come up with a plan B. Thank you all again for your support and prayers. My thoughts and prayers will be with all of you. Pink Grandma

Pink, I'm sorry you didn't get better news today. The cirrhosis does play a role in what they can and cannot do. Are the tumors all in one lobe, or in both? My tumor was 12.1 and took up most of the right lobe. It has shrunk to 9 cm and appears dead. There are just the remaining cancerous cells on the upper periphery of the tumor. I guess I have been really lucky, with good liver function and no cirrhosis. I will continue to pray for your husband, as I believe that prayer works.

Hugs,
Connie
