My mother was diagnoised with 4th stage liver diseases, which i assume is esld.
she continues to drink and take sleeping pills... she is now in emergancy and hallucinating... she is talking to people that are not around and seeing things happening aroud her... this has been happining for almost 2 days now.  they are admitting her to the hospital but everything happens so slowing in the canadian hospitals.    What have you experienced with hallucinations?   Is this realy bad?   Her doctor said at christmas time if she didn't quit drinking she would not have long to live.   I just had my first child, a baby boy on March 1st,     3 weeks early... now i wonder if he came early for a reason!
Thanks for your help and advise! LM

Hello Lucy,
Welcome to the Forum.

I'm sorry your mother is so ill. The doctor is correct. Her liver will continue to deteriorate if she continues to drink. You can prayer for her and be there for her, but if she gets through this crisis, it will just be followed by another if she doesn't take control of her life and make some tough decisions.

Enjoy your little son. This is a wonderful time of your life. I bacame a grandmother for the first time in August and understand how you must feel. Babies are just a gift from heaven.

Some people believe things happen for a reason. Then again, perhaps the baby was ready or your dates were not accurate.

I hope the news of your mother improves and she is able to enjoy some time being a grandmother.

Take care of yourself. Your baby and your mom need you.
Marg

Congratulation on the new baby Lucy and welcome to HW. No one can say how long your mother will live, but for sure the continued drinking is going to greatly take away from her quantity of time left here, and also take away from the quality of life,,,,,,,liver disease can be very nasty... Please continue to come back here, the people on this site are wonderful, and at times have literally saved my sanity,,,,,,,Enjoy each moment with your mother, and especially that new baby:) My thoughts will be with your family that this crisis will be over, and your mother will do what she needs to do to take care of herself,,,,,take care of yourself Lucy

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body used up ,totally worn out and screaming"WOOOOHOO WHAT A RIDE!!!"

Lucy, congratulations on being a new mom! It's a shame that your mother is not able to enjoy him right now.

Is your mom on morphine? That causes hallucinations in some people. It could also be from the drinking.

Trish or anyone else: Does hepatic encephalopthy cause hallucinations?

Prayers go out to you and your mom, Lucy.

I am sure it does Connie, Rick hears things the wrong way,and imagines noises that arent there,,,,I dont think hes ever seen any hallucinations visually,,,,,but i know that teresa has spoke about similar things with mark,,,,,,the mind can play terrible tricks on a person, but it could be the drinking too. or a combination of both.
