As many of you know, I was scheduled for surgery for liver cancer on Mon., April 30th.  I was supposed to go to the hospital today for pre-op testing.  Before I left home, I got a call from the surgeon's P.A., telling me that the surgeon hurt his back very badly and therefore my hepatectomy (excision of rt. lobe of liver) is being postponed until the 3rd or 4th week of May.  mad    I was psyched up for Mon. and had all plans in place such as cat care.  My b.f. just informed me he will be out of town from the 25th to 28th (Memorial Day weekend), so if surgery is scheduled for the 25th, I may have to go solo.  sad    What a roller coaster ride of emotions.  Nothing I can do, but go with the flow.

Hugs to all,
Connie

So sorry Connie,

I understand that bit about being psyched up and ready for something and the frustration of having your surgery delayed.
I'm sure God had a purpose for having scheduled the end of May. Gee, sometimes we need to learn to go things alone but that is a very difficult path to follow.

Hope all works out well for you,
Barb

Connie

I am sorry that your surgery was postponed. I know that when you are anticipating something and then it gets delayed how irratatiing and frustrating that can be. Hoperully the added time will give you some more strength to get through this time. My thoughts and prayers and with you.

Thanks, everyone. I am trying to look at it from the point of view that this gives me more time to get some more things done, for example getting to the dentist.

This does give me a small idea of what people waiting for a transplant go through when it's a "go" and then a "no." Frustrating!

Hi Connie, sorry about your surgery being put off,,,,and sorry I am delayed in responding to posts. Rick is very much behaving himself lately,,,,,,kinda scarey, but the new meds might be working? I have been extremely busy with school and my kids, and preparing to move so I am very behind on my reading of posts, but am catching up tonight, whew,,,,,,,take care Connie, the end of May will come before you know it,,,,,,(I am counting down the days til I hit 40,,,,,May 16th and it seems to be coming way too fast:) lol) :hugs: I know its rough doing the surgery alone,,,,,,maybe something will change by then, but if not,,,, you will come through this and get on with the business of living life to the fullest:)

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body used up ,totally worn out and screaming"WOOOOHOO WHAT A RIDE!!!"

Hi Connie, sorry your surgery got postponed. Sometimes these things happen for a reason, a reason that you'll probably never know. Take care of yourself in the meantime and the end of May is just around the corner. I know it's frustrating especially when you've made arragements for care for yourself and the cat! Hang in there...My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Thanks, Trish and Shel! I appreciate your support! Shel, make that catS! LOL One is 17 1/4 and the other is 16 1/2. They are both feeling their age and experiencing arthritic pain.

Trish, you are just a young thing! I'm so glad to hear that Rick is "behaving himself." As for me, I am mostly sleeping. I have zero energy. Lately, I've been having pain on the left side. My surgeon told me that the left lobe of my liver had grown all the way over to the left side. I suppose it's taking over the work of the rt. lobe. My spleen is also swollen. I can feel it. I feel so "stuffed" that I have lost my appetite for actual meals. I can eat and enjoy ice cream, soup, Slim Fast, puddings, and anything that is not too solid...but only a little at a time. The pain gets really bad if I eat too much. I'm taking vitamins, so hopefully I'm getting what I need.

I got a call saying an MRI is scheduled for May 9th, as the last one was the beginning of March. The pre-op testing and meeting with the P.A. is scheduled for May 22nd, so the surgery will be sometime after that.

I'll keep everyone posted.

Hugs to all,
Connie

Hi Connie,
I've not read any posts for more than a week and logged on tonight to see how you were going. How disappointing for you. Stay positive and before you know it it'll be over.

hope the vitamins are making up for your appetite decrease. I can remember when my liver was at it's worst the opnly thing I really could eat and enjoy was mashed potato and gravy. My husband became quite an expert.

Anyway, all the best for later in the month. I have been thinking of you. (and will continue pray fro you and others needing prayers)
Take care.
Marg
