Hi, I'm new to your forum. Just needed somewhere to go to talk to other people right now. My mom is 51 yrs old and has hep C, and now is in the end stages of liver disease. She is on lactulose and is sleeping most of the time. The ammonia level in her body is high. They are trying to stablize, but having a hard time. I am the oldest of four and have to be really strong for the others. I am having a hard time imagining my mother not here. How do I keep up face. I just don't know what to do.

Welcome cyndogg, I am so sorry about your mom. I lost my husband almost 3 months ago to liver cancer so I know what your going through. It's hard to be the strong one all the time. My husband only saw me cry a couple of times due to his illness. And no one else ever did before he past away. We are here to listen and support you. So when you are feeling low and want to vent we will listen. Everyone here, has been there done that and are very kind and knowledgeable. My one bit of advice is to take care of yourself. Give yourself a break every now and then. What you are going through is probably one the most stressfull situations there is. Get educated on the disease. There's alot to learn. If you have any questions .........ask. Someone here may have the answer or know where you can get the answer. My thoughts and prayers will be with you. Pink Grandma

Hi, cyndogg! I just wanted to welcome you to the forum. I think terminal or chronic illness is harder on the caretakers than it is on the patient. I'm a patient myself, and have received excellent treatment for hep C-related liver cancer. Was your mom ever eligible for a transplant?
