Does anyone know what the acceptable amount of vitamin A is for a person with cirrhosis.  I was on a site yesterday that said they should only have a certain amount, but I didn't write it down, and now I can't find the site again.  My husband takes a multi-vitamin that has 3500iu (70%).

Pink Grandma, Thanks so much for your help. That is the exact site I was on yesterday, but I read so much yesterday that I couldn't find it again.

We are doing well except my husband is tired a lot lately (sleeps alot) and the edema in his legs and feet is getting worse. His stomach has been bloated for a while now, so I can't tell if it is any worse. I am going to get a new bathroom scale today so that we can watch his weight more closely. He also said his urine output isn't that much. I am worried. He has a doctor's appointment next Thursday. Hopefully they will adjust his medication.

Thanks again for all you help.

Hi,

I avoid Vit A & ensure its not included in a supplement. I also avoid iron.

Hope this helps.

It seems like some doctors have different opinions on what is best for liver disease. My husbands had him take Vitamin A but he had him stay away from iron and potassium. Cary did your doctor tell you why he didn't want you to take vitamin A?

I have read that 5,000 units per day is the limit.
