Hello. After my last visit to the GP she suggested I try taking Colpermin capsules three times a day to assist with the flatulence problem. It has worked really well for me so far and, as the capsules seem to contain nothing more vicious than peppermint oil, no side effects either. I take a capsule half an hour before each meal and am now virtually gas free. Those wind farms won't be happy but I am!!

Right on Easta! I'm glad to hear you are so much improved with Colpermin! Sometimes peppermint really does do the trick for the gas...especially if it is enteric-coated, which means it doesn't start breaking down until it reaches the small intestine (most stuff can't stand the high-acid environment of the stomach, but enteric-coated meds will). Keep us updated!

Thanks for the reply Sarita. I am still gas free but, unfortunately, have become somewhat "bunged". This is unheard of for me - usually the other way - and I am wondering if Colpermin can have this constipating effect on some people? I do hope not as I think it is a wonder drug for the gas. Anyone shed any light on the darkness here?

Hmm...it's probably not the Colpermin having that effect. If you had any side effects from that, it might be a twinge of heartburn, but even that is relatively unlikely to happen. It might just be a naturally occurring phenomenon due to having IBS. If it's helping with the gas, stick with it. Do you take a fiber supplement at all? I've read a lot of good studies on calcium polycarbophil (in the U.S. we have a brand called "FiberCon") that alleviates both D and C, so you might want to try that!
