I just had a colonostopy and
a egd done. Had a polyp removed, two more there but just starting. Dr. found a tiny area in my stomach that he said was so small he did not know if it was inflammation or a ulcer starting. I really expected him him to find gerd or a hiatal hernia.

I have ibs for years and years, control the d and c with metamucil, but have frequent bm's often. I get pain under my rib cage both sides, get sharp shooting pains that run along my rib cage or from the bottom rbs up to the low part of the breast. Stomach pain, feels like a gnawing pain.

I do have fbromyalgia and the gastro think that this is all ibs and fm related. I am relieved to find out i don't have anything serious but it seem my ibs symtons changed. This rib thing comes and goes. My stomach will not bother me for weeks and than I can have 4-6 days of this gnawing pain.
i get so bloated and burp like a drunken sailor.

Everything I read  about ibs says pain below the navel relieved by a bm. Sometimes I get the terrible bloating aftr a bowel movement.

Thnks for any reponse. Linda

I've never heard fibro was related to IBS, but I know it can be related to IBD (inflammatory bowel disease).

Keep getting checked (scoped) regularly, even the smallest amount of inflammation from IBD can bring on the biggest of symptoms.

My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it!  LOL  :)

I, too, get the terrible bloating and burping. The burp relieves a lot of the pressure in the esophagous but then it comes right back. I don't get the other pain. Usually I find I am a little constipated when it happens so I take 1 Dulcolax which gets everything moving, especially the gas. Once it gets to my colon the bloating goes away. I don't know why you would get bloating after a BM though. Didn't the Dr. do a biopsy for h. pylori (ulcer bacteria) Hiatal are very common. My dr. now has never mentioned it but I was told years ago I have one. My biggest problem is the trapped gas that creates pressure in the esophagous.

Interestingly I too have recently experienced sharp spasmic pain in breast bone area and to the left of it. I have been worried it might signal a heart problem but have had a normal ECG. I am fit and can walk up steep hills (no choice where I live) without getting out of breath. Perhaps these spasmy sharp pains can be a part of IBS?
