Hey everyone, how have you all been doing?,myself hanging in there.I've been on this new probiotic called Align for about three weeks now it says to be one of the best that have been studied by doctors to work for people dealing with IBS. I've noticed some kind of a change but it says it takes up to eight weeks to feel the best results. The main issue that I want gone is the excessive gas and urgency that I get,I just hate going through those issues with IBS.And does anyone else experience this anxiety if I'm alone in my apartment and I have gas I get real paranoid thinking people in my building know that I have gas and can hear me pass gas,and I even think that they can smell it even when it does not smell at all.LOL I hate having this feeling, the reason I think I think this is cause I've had embarassing experiences where I've passed gas in public and felt embarassed about it.And when I use the bathroom several times I feel the people living above know and are laughing at me and talking about me.I know this is really silly I just hate having to feel this way and I'm trying to deal with this in therapy.I know everyone has gas and it's a normal thing I just hate having it so much.I just do not want people knowing and thinking what's wrong with this guy is he sick?.But anyways I know I have my faith God keeps the tears from flowing and makes it bareable to go about my day.Without him I would have probably taken my life over this already but I know he does not give me to much that I can not handle. In the past it was worse but now it is not that bad and I'm able to get out when I can.I just pray that there will be a cure for IBS,and when I feel that I'm the only one dealing with this I just come on here and just feel better cause I know I'm not alone in this.I would love to find a support group in my area just to meet people my age also dealing with this.I would be able to relate and just share stories to be eachother's support. My GI doctor can not find no groups for me I'm thinking of starting one myself.I live in and around the Boston area if anyone on here is from Boston please let me know. I would love to be in contact with you to chat, feel free to contact me I'm very friendly and looking for new friends who are dealing with this.I wish everyone the best and hope that you all take it day by day that is all we can do. Much love jtaurus xoxoxoxoxo :-) eyes

Hi j, I think starting a group would be a great idea for you. Sounds like you definitely need more support than you are getting. I'm sure there's got to be something like that in Boston already in existence. I live in the Southwest so getting to meetings might prove difficult but you know I'd be there if I could. As far as your new probiotic goes, some people do experience increased bloating and gassiness for the first couple of weeks but that might settle down. Patience and persistence is the key here (I know, easier said than done). I wouldn't worry too much about what your neighbors think - I can only imagine what goes on behind most closed doors of apartments! Hang in there. Keep us updated. Give those probiotics the full eight weeks and see how you feel then. And in the meantime, keep coming on board here and venting away, that's what we're here for : )

Hey jtaurus, I'm in the Boston area too. Have you tried to find a support group through the endoscopy units at any of the big hospitals, like BI or BWH? I'm not sure where in the metro area you are, but those two might be a good starting point.

Good luck!

Hey jtaurus,

I have been given Align also, it's been about two weeks for me. My PCP recommended it, he said he takes it himself for IBS. I used to be IBS-D but in the past couple of months have switched to IBS-C. I haven't noticed much of a difference either, but my doc was very insistent on the fact that I need to give it at least 6 weeks. I did have D the first day after I took it, which was not that terrible for me because it was my first bowel movement in 5 or 6 days. Keep me updated on your progress though...I will be interested to see how this works.

I'll have to check out this Align stuff more. I am taking VSL#3 and it has been my miracle "drug" (just a potent probiotic, really - but undergoing FDA approval for treatment of IBS and ulcerative colitis). I think probiotics are the wave of the future, but then again, I've tried everything else out there with very little progress!
