Well, you might not be able to believe this, but I cannot go! I've been shot up with so much morphine, Dilaudid, Demerol, and who knows what else in an effort to keep me pain-free over the past few days that my system is totally backed up. I know it's in there! But I can't strain at all because I don't want to dislodge the clot protecting my spine. Any tips? I took two fiber capsules last night and am drinking coffee this morning but to no avail...at least yet. Is it time for something like Colace? I can't believe I am feeling this, it's alien to me! Thanks in advance for any tips...

Hi Sarita

I don't know if it will help but drinking hot water (boiled from the kettle) always acts as a good "remover" for me ... but in a gentle way if you want to try something a little more natural first.

I had plenty of roughage yesterday but then again I also had two bananas, which probably didn't help matters. So today I bit the bullet and got some bisacodyl tablets. Maybe I'm just a pansy but I don't know how people deal with this feeling every day! I never knew! I would rather have diarrhea...hard to believe the Queen of Garden Hose would ever say something like that but maybe it's just because I'm used to it...

The biscodyl will fix you up and you should not have much cramping with it. I hope. Take the recommended dose though. I usually take just one when I get a little stopped up to get me back in the groove but if someone is really constipated they should take the recommended dose. One sometimes may not work for a day and then it is as if I didn't take anything. 2 and I have to stay close to home. Iwouldn't trade it for diarrhea though.

Well golly gee, the fun never ends. I was so uncomfortable today and spent so much time on the darned toilet with not even a tiny bit of hope in sight that I finally called my sister in desperation. She said it sounded like I had a fecal impaction and to give myself two Fleet enemas! I never thought the day would come...it was miserable...I was sweating and spitting and swearing and sweating some more and finally dis-impacted myself with the Fleets. I did two. It was just horrible.

I guess that's what you get when you get five doses of morphine, two of Dilaudid, a couple helpings of Demerol, and a bunch of anti-emetics to top it all off over the course of four days.

For a minute I thought I was on the wrong boards!  I can't believe you are CONSTIPATED!  Holy cannoli!

If you want instant relief, try the mag citrate.  It works for me in about 5 - 6 hours and has absolutely no cramping.

I guess you've discovered the "cure" for your D, huh?  Of course, not a sustainable treatment plan by any stretch!

Yes, I always wish for and prefer D.  It's miserable to feel like you always have to go and yet you're body doesn't do what it's supposed to.

Keep us posted!

I know, dude, isn't that just SICK?

The enemas did their job. I just had diarrhea like a wildwoman about 2-3 times. Normally my D is effortless - I could be really Zen here and say it's like "water flowing through an empty room" or something - but this was not effortless D. It was painful and horrible. I think the problem is that after my lumbar puncture, I've had spinal anesthetic and so I have trouble with my Valsalva maneuver - i.e. getting it out! Now everything just feels swollen and inflamed and disGUSTing.

Welcome to C world!  This is how I feel 99% of the time!  Isn't it crappy (pun most definitely intended).
Enemas make me very ill as well.  I don't use them EVER.  "Getting it out" - therein lies a big part of the problem.  I had friends over for dinner a few weeks back.  One of them, a nurse, was shocked and stunned when I squeezed the right side of my abdomen.  She said she had never heard sounds like that in her life (I'm obvioulsy the life of the party, heh?).  Sounded like the water slide ride in an amusement park.  That's what I carry around with me everyday.  It's misery.  Just won't come out without major "encouragement".
Are you still taking the binding drugs or are you done?
