Between drinking only half of what you should drink and having diarrhea, I don't doubt that you are dehydrated. Being dehydrated can cause kidney problems and lead to bladder infections--among other problems. You have to drink a lot to keep your system flushed out.

I sit at a desk all day, and in the morning I make myself a 2-liter tea pitcher of green tea. I keep this and a glass on my desk and it makes it very easy to drink (if I have to get up for water, I find myself making excuses NOT to get up; keeping it on my desk allows me to indulge my laziness). I drink the entire pitcher over the course of the day, and sometimes a cup or two extra of water. Then I go home and fill up a 32oz glass with water and drink one or two of those with my dinner. So I'm getting over 120 oz of non-sugared, non-caffeinated liquid a day.

Once I get started drinking in the morning, I tend to pee about once an hour. I usually get up once a night to pee as well (although sometimes twice, depending on how late I was drinking water). I find now that if I don't get something approaching my normal amounts of water, I will get a headache. I can always tell a dehydration headache because it's always in the back of my head. Drinking water helps it more than taking an ibuprofen (in fact, if I don't drink, then the ibuprofen won't fully get rid of it).

Now, to me, the thing about little kids is that they always need to go potty! Can you not take them to the bathroom and go yourself at the same time? The other thing to do is for both you and the children you are working with to drink something--unless you have bladder problems, they can't hold out any longer than you can; then you can go to the bathroom at the same time.

The other thing is to drink water or herbal tea when you do drink. Caffeine actually depletes your water reserves, so drinking an 8 oz glass of water is more hydrating than drinking an 8 oz coke.
