Hello all.

Does it often happen that IBS D sufferers can become IBS A sufferers?
Although I have always been on the soft loose side just recently I have sometimes experienced C and today was a new one for me. I had difficulty passing a couple of bits and then whoosh! A good amount of semi solid faeces which came in an explosion and stuck to the side of the loo pan. Sorry to be graphic but can't describe it any other way.

Do others have this and, if so, what can be done?

I have been pressing my GP to refer me for an ovarian scan and this has at last been achieved. I go next Friday.

Hope others are coping with the inconvenience and downright discomfort that these bowel problems cause.

Thanks.

Definitely have this experience.  Sometimes all variations in the same day!  I can wake up in the morning feeling like I have to go, and end up with nothing more than gas and cat sized deposits in the loo.  By the afternoon, I might be running to the bathroom at work, terrified I might not make it and spend the rest of the night making trips to my favorite room in the house.  I can't tell you how SICK I am of cleaning the toilet three, four times a day! It's craziness.

I just had one of those episodes, which is weird for me too, since I'm normally excreting excessively watery diarrhea. I was actually producing something formed! And then of course it turned to mush before I could celebrate. I really don't know why it happens.

Gutsy - I just let my cats clean the toilet bowl for me. :) Seriously, it's disgusting, but I can't keep them from drinking from it! I'm like, "Dudes...you have no idea what goes in there..." but they don't seem to listen.

I gave up even trying to figure out how my stools were. MY only goal is to be able to make it. Hell there isnt any rhyme or reason to that either. In the same day I will be fine, plenty of time to make it ,pretty good bm, then I will bo working and get a pain and runnnnnnn. You guys remember that commercial about frequent urination where thy say GOTTA GO GOTTA GO GOTTA GO GOTTA GO. I sing that to the batroom all the time. Cannot get it out of my head. What a song to be stuck. Anyway my stools are diffrent all the time, the frequency and urgency is what I would like to control.

I just threw up in my mouth at the thought of my beloved kitty slurping the toilet water!
When I moved into my new place last year, I was completely freaked out by the new toilet.  It's one of those new-fangled deep well types where the bowl part is recessed so far down that you can't really discern what is in there!  My compulsive need to carefully examine and excavate the products of elimination has been seriously thwarted!

Easta, you are not alone! This has happened to me recently as well. I had been primarily IBS-D for years and suddenly I'm dealing with constipation. When I do go it's as you describe...solid at first and then an explosion. Yuck! There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it, and the thing I find most frustrating is deciding on my diet. I eat very differently to try to control D and to try to control C...when I don't know which will happen I'm all out of whack! The only 2 staples I know I can stick with are fiber and water, water, water! I wish I knew why this happened, but I'm sure we all say or think that every day!

Sarita, that really isn't good for them. I hope you were kidding. Put down the lid. Works good.
