Im new here. Has anyone taken Dicyclomine. I just got diagnosed with IBS and tis is what the doctor prescribed. Ive had the worst 2 months of my life recently. Up until my endoscopy yesterday the docs thought I had GERD. So the prilosec Ive been taken for 2 months was for nothing. No wonder my syomtoms only got worse.

Hi Kimo and welcome to the board,
I have had a lot of success with dicyclomine. It relaxes the contractions of your intestine, and theoretically decreases the pain as a result. It helped me more than a lot of other meds out there. Where has your pain been localized?

Thanks Sarita,
The pain usually starts with gas bubbles in my stomach after I eat. The pressure on my chest is extreme. I also get a weird sensation in the area of my heart. I then get a head ache right behind my eyes during an episode. I really thought I was the only one feeling this way until I found this fourm yesterday. I cant believe how similar some of the people here feel with the same symotoms. It has been driving me crazy. Ive changed my whole lifestyle in a matter of 2 months.

Do you also take a gas relief medicine before you eat? That might head off some of it.

Keriamon,

Ive tried Gas-X, and antacids after I eat or during an attack but Ive never tried it prior to eating. I think I willl try it before I eat and see if it works. Has anyone tried juicing? I read some good things about it and also Aloe Vera. Im just looking for anything that can give me some relief.

Yes, you can take gas pills before you eat. I see that you said that you were on PPIs, but have you ever tried a simple antacid, like Pepcid, right before a meal?

Fruit juice GIVES me gas. Too acidic. Aloe vera is a natural laxative, so don't take it unless you need more regular bowel movements.

Yeah I was on Prilosec and Gerid that was initially when the doctors thought i had Acid Reflux/GERD. But It didnt help. I stopped after a few weeks. I had an enoscopy 2 days ago and it showed no problems with my esophogas and stomach. In fact now they say I never had GERD but I had IBS? I am at a loss. My docotor has set me up to take a stomach ultrasound I guess thats the next step. I will try the gas pills before I eat today and pray they work. Thanks

I have never heard of a stomach ultrasound. Are you sure that is what it is? Could it be a test for gall bladder. I thought I had every test there was. Anything that was in your stomach should have been seen by the endo.

CanyonBabe,

Yes Im positive my doctor set it up and called it an abdominal ultrasound. Im not sure if that is a normal procedure or what they expect to find with an ultrasound but Im willing to do whatever it takes to get to the root problem Im having.

Ok, well, I think abdominal ultrasound may show a anuerysm but I don't know what else it would show. I have always had CT scans for things like that and it shows all the organs. They do do gall bladder scans so I thought maybe it was that.

here is a link so it looks like it is used instead of a CT scan.

Abdominal ultrasounds show a lot. They are the typical diagnostic test for gallstones, and they also visualize the liver, pancreas, etc.

Is there also other common test used to diagnose whats going on. It seems like IBS is just used when the doctors are not sure exactly what the problem is.
