I've begun high doses of probiotics and I'm really amazed at how mich they have improved the workings of my bowel and at how good I feel.

What type of probiotics do people take for their IBS? Have you gotten good results. Do you take high dosages (above that of what is advertisied for non IBSers)? If you could quote the actual names rather than the brand names that would be super as I'm way over here in Ireland and we have different brands.

I've been on Culturelle and Kyo-Dophilus for a couple years. I love them both!! When my IBS first started, a few years back, I took Acidophilus and they made me super gassy. To each his own, though... You have to see what works for you.
In addition to the probiotics, I also eat at least 1 Dannon Acitivia or 1 DanActive a day. It really does do wonders keeping your gut in balance. I hope it keeps up for you. :-)

I'm using Acidopphilus as well. I was SUPER gassy for about 3 weeks on them and then my guts settled down. I also eat an activia and i drink a danone.

I take Cultrelle, but only when I'm on antibiotics or just after a round of them. I find that it seems strong enough with just a single dose (if gas is any indicator of strength!). Anyways, a single dose keeps me from getting antibiotic-associated diarrhea. My bowel problems are from a lack of a gall bladder, so I don't think that full-time probitoics give me any noticeable benefit, but I sure won't take antibiotics without them! There is definitely a benefit there. I ALWAYS get diarrhea with antibiotics if I don't take the probiotics.

I use primadophilus reuteri made by natures way and it aids with both my IBS and my crohn's disease...it's great for lactose intolerance as well, which I had issues with but not anymore since I take this probiotic daily...it also aids with high cholesterol and for women, vaginal health, although it's perfectly fine for men to take as well.

:)
My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it!  LOL  :)
