So I finally graduated high school without having to go to an alternative school or anything..I still did the homebound and went to only one class at school...but that was good enough for me!  I was so worried that at the graduation my stomach would be super bad bcuz i was so nervous...but i was actually really good!! besides the feeling like i was going to throw up but thats just cuz i was nervous.....but more recently my stomach has been hurting alot more! Does any of your doctors give you anything for the pain? I only have something for gas and a powerd thing to put in a drink..its like a laxative..and Fibercon...are alot of you guys depressed too? My gastro. sent me to a psychologist and he thinks im depressed..and im like thanks a heep buddy i think you would be depressed too if you spent half your life in a bathroom : )

Hi nst, welcome back! And, CONGRATS on graduation!!! That's so great you didn't have to go to an alternate school... I remember that was a big source of stress for you. Way to stick it out. :-) Maybe college will be easier...
Remind us why you're on a laxative? It doesn't make any sense if you're having D all the time. Maybe I misunderstood - Are you on fiber only (Fibercon)? That would definitely make more sense; bulk up your stool. How about a probiotic or yogurt? Have you added either of those to your daily routine?
I hear you about the depression thing... I was super down in the dumps a few years back when I was going through my roughest time. I think it doesn't help either that you're so young. Teens especially have a tough time with IBS and social taboos, amongst all the other stressors already in your life.
*I'm not implying the older folks don't have a hard time too... Because we sure do!*
You know, speaking to a psychologist might actually help your stress level, which in turn, might help your IBS. In addition, antidepressants have been known to help IBS symptoms. Have you seen the psychologist yet?

hey there. congrats on graduating! i am currently in highschool.. grade 10, and i have severe IBS, which is making me do crapty in school, but i am trying to hold out for a few more weeks. Im sorry to hear about your IBS. I am hoping mine will get better for next year, i am trying absolutely everything.
I definitly know what you mean about being depressed. I wouldn't say i am full out depressed, but sitting around thinking about my problem makes me so sad, so i try not to, but its hard to want to get up and go out somewhere when you constantly have to plan ahead. Especially in highschool, when all your friends are out partying or whatever, and you can't.
when i was younger i had anxiety problems so i went to a psycologist.. and shes the most understanding great person. so this year i just started going back to her. she has never really called me depressed, but she has helped me a lot. so maybe your psycologist isn't the greatest one for you, or maybe you just need to get to know him more : )
anyway, i have the same problems as you.. constipation and all that. i am always in pain, but i wish you all the luck! and congrats on finishing highschool. its a drag for me right now, hopefully it will get better.

Awe, nst, I'm flattered... Thank you!!! *blushing*

How long did you try the Dannon? Did you give it the full 2 weeks as recommended? If that didn't work, you could always try taking probiotic pills. The worst it can do is make you a bit gassy (assuming you're not allergic to any ingredient). Probiotics definitely helped my IBS-C (alternating from C to D). The fiber too will definitely help with that.

Did you find the psychologist helpful at all? If not, you might consider looking for a new one.

Congratulations nst!!! I am really proud of you! You had a rough go of it for a while (sounds like you still are to some extent) but you persevered and have this big accomplishment under your belt now. Good for you!
