Hi all,
I have been suffering with IBS on and off for about 2 years now and needless to say it has been a struggle in regards to working etc. Also knowing and feeling that no one else really understand what Im going through especially at the moment really hurts inside
Since last thursday I have had pretty severe heartburn pains in my chest and as the weekend dragged on I started to get excessive wind and bloating.

I normally suffer with 'IBS D' and that is really embarrassingly painful dihorea when that happens but it all seems to have turned around and now I seem to have severe constipation which in turn means i am constantly blocked up with too much wind, heartburn getting worse, pains in sides, lower abdomen - this randomly flaring up during different parts of the day. I have had to really strain a couple of times to poo but only small minute poos come out.

I have only started a new job last week and managed to do my first week fine apart from the Indigestion starting. But I have been off all this week so far. I did attempt to go into work yesterday for 1.5hrs but had to go home as felt so rubbish.

Would like to hear back from people as I hate being so alone here

Thanks

Chris

Chris you aren't alone! We all have those times where we don't know what to expect and when. It can be very embarassing and a real pain, but unfortunately it is something we have to live with.

At my job I find myself going to the bathroom every hour or two. In each one of the stalls is a can of air freshener that the company provides! I still get embarassed when I'm in there a while and stink it up, but the air freshener makes me feel a little better and sometimes when I go in there are others stinking it up and I realize I'm not alone! Its a sad part of exisitence, but others go through the same thing hence why the air freshener is in every stall. I also feel bad though because I pass a lot of gas that can smell pretty bad so I keep smelly lotion to put on and mask the smell when it gets too bad. And when it comes to cramps while working I keep some motrin in my purse, stay still, and sit it out till it passes or go to the bathroom and pass a movement.

I think prunes are supposed to be real good at releiving C as well as a couple of other fruits I can't think of right now. And I think apples and other high fiber foods are supposed to be good with relieving D. Along with over the counter stuff and prescriptions I don't know what else to tell you, except you aren't alone.

you're not alone, oddly enough there seems to be more and more ibs sufferers. makes me wonder if it's something in our foods. mine started about 6 years ago. and it seems it affects me more in the summer but that could just be me after all in the winter time when my stomach is bloated like I'm 9 months pregnant I can pull on a big fluffy sweatshirt, can't do that in the summer months. and I can truly sympathize on the pain, mine usually starts like a giant shaped teardrop right in the center of my stomach it burns and then cramps and bloats sometimes to the point that I can't even stand up straight, I have found the eating anything at fast food restuarants really irritate it. I've never had the diarrhea part it's always been constipation. I do know any processed foods, chocolate, caffiene should be avoided, also sometimes going for a walk can relieve some of the abdominal pressure with the bloating. it helps me to sleep on my stomach, although I heard it's not good on your back.

Chirstian C,
That worries me! Is your doc monitering this seriously? Not to scare you or anything but a 18 year old girl from here died from being impacted! I hope you get some relief, and in the meantime I will keep you in my prayers!

I am confused about the fiber thing. I thought that high fiber foods would give you D. Is that not how it works?

so the movicol didn;t work - another night of pain and suffering :(
went to hospital today due to all the pain - got prescribed 'PICOLAX' which is to severely unlock you apparently - only to take half a sachet as this drugs is only usually administered in hospitals before a patient goes for an endoscopy operation so they can clear out their bowel. Doctor said if this doesnt work, he wasnt sure what would!!? :(

so i will be ringing up NHS Direct again today to say ive not slept again and after 14hrs of waiting still no poop.

what can be wrong with me??

Im not gonna be able to go into work again and Im going camping for 2wks with the wife on friday.

I really hope i get better in the coming days

Get an enema. Most people who have bad C have to use an enema in conjunction with laxatives, or it's terribly painful because the laxatives will soften the stool high up in your guts, but the stuff down at the bottom will still be hard and it hurts bad to pass it, and yet your guts are cramping trying to push all of that other stuff down through. So an enema to soften up the stuff at the end will make everything work better. I know I've been in the same situation; once you finally push the hard stuff out, everything that follows will be like mush and you will poop and poop and poop.

Better get yourself some baby wipes to use when that time comes, or your bum will be terribly raw from all the wiping.
