Hi everyone Happy 4th I hope everyone had a good day I recently went to a health food store to pick up some digestive enzymes and peppermint oil.I have been using the enzymes but have not started on the peppermint oil pills while I was in the store a sales rep came up to me and asked if I needed help I've seen him there several times before and been friendly with him.He asked me what I was getting and I told him what and mentioned that I had IBS just telling him how hard it's been for me living with IBS and he mentioned to me that he has stomach issues also.He had mentioned that he's recently been through some medical issues that effected his digestive system where it was to the point he was unable to eat.The thing that he did was started taking huge doses of probitocs like 20 capsules in one day and said that help a great deal and he's been feeling a whole lot better. He mentioned that I should start doing that and see what happens he gave me a free packet of some 20 pills and said take 5 pills through out the day.I'm kind of worried about taking them like that is it safe? he had mentioned that people need 3 tons of good bacteria in their gut for healthty digestion just taking one pill a day is not enough.I'm going to try it after I get some feedback and talk to him again about how to take them I also know when you start taking probiotics they cause some gas.I do not want to take a whole bunch of probiotic pills and end up feeling extremely gassy all day I'm also going to talk to my GI doctor about this I pray once I start taking them that way I'll notice a difference. On the other hand the enzymes I feel are doing something have not had the dreaded D yet that is why I'm taking them to aid in digestion and keep me from getting the dreaded D so far so good. The peppermint oil pills on the other hand not yet cause I hear they can cause heartburn I might end up returning them.I hope you all have a good weekend and good digestive health all my best and love your friend in this war against IBS J. :-)

Of course taking alot of probiotics would be safe, check out the high dosage of VSL3, it just may cost you alot of money, so maybe VSL3 is a better option, it's pricy too but if you're gonna spend big $$$ you mine as well go big.

Peppermint oil or peppermint of any kind is a no-no if you are subject to heartburn. First thing I was told not to take for my acid problems which are severe. I might also ad and this is somewhat delicate that when I have take even the peppermint, ginger, fennel capsules that I bought from an IBS site it burns when I urinate so it is powerful stuff. The ones I got are supposed to not affect acid because the release in the small intestine so if you have acid reflux I would not take the oils. AS for that many probiotics I would certainly not take that many ever and would surely ask my Doctor. 3 tons, a slight exageration? a ton is a ton is a ton or 2000lbs. I don't think so.

I will ask my GI doctor first but he's been a pain to get in contact with he's always so busy he's booked months in advance if I miss an appointment with him I end up waiting two months to see him.I end up talking to his nurses who at times do not seem concerned about my problems it feels they like brush them off.I will of course get my doctor's advice on this and I'm going to return those peppermint oil pills wont be able to get my money back lol just a store credit.Thank you guys for your advice as always take care and wishing you good digestive health. :-)

What?!? tongue

20 capsules in one day? Wow, that's a lot but I guess it depends on the type of probiotics you wanna take. I use Culturelle and the package says no more than 2 a day...of course I upped it to 6 just to see if I'd feel better, but it made me very, very nautious and dizzy for the whole day; all I could do was lie down. I won't make that mistake again.
