ok since mostly everyone on here is living with ibs and is very well informed of this disease i was wondering if you guys could help me.  I'm 20 years and for the past year I've been getting severe pains after I eat, now I know that this is something in common with ibs sufferers but it doesnt matter what I eat, I could eat a cracker and I am doubled over in pain.  I have been rushed to the ER 3 times in one month because of this and have seen 3 specialist as well.  I have had 2 colonoscopies done this year as well as an endoscopy, blood work, mrcp, xray, 2 sonograms, and 2 ct scans.  lately I have been living on only rice due to the pain, but in the past 6 months my symptoms have been getting worse like having chronic diarrhea imediately after eating something like a piece of toast.  so far they only found that I have gastroporesis but my dr. told me that it wouldnt cause diarrhea, but tonight I had a tiny piece of chicken nothing on it no sauce no seasoning and within a half hour I was having diarrhea for 2 hours.  Is anyone else dealing with this or do you guys think this is something more?  I have gone down to 90 lbs and I eat a strick diet no dairy, no gluten, no wheat no eggs, not too much fiber due to the diarrhea, very low fat if any, no sugar.  my symptoms are of those with crohns disease more than ibs but I dont think that they've found that i would have known, I've been in the hospital due to elevating amylace and lipase but they found in the mrcp that my pancreas was fine, I just want to know that I'm not crazy I've been on so many muscle relaxers, pain meds, meds to stop colon spasms, creon 10, and not one thing has helped.  I should mention that I get very sharp pains in my lower left abdomen that travel to my lower back and shoot up to the middle of my stomach but i very rarely get pain in my right side.  I just want someone elses opinion because I've had a dr. think it was an eating disorder and to shut me up say it was ibs but when I tell you I've gotten to the point where a grain of rice puts me in pain I've begun to think it is not ibs, I had to drop out of school and quit my job because of this if anyone can give me their opinion I would be very thankful-lilly

Hey lilyanne,
Can I ask you a serious question? Do you have an eating disorder? I'm not saying that you do but it sounds like what I went through when I dealt with anorexia. Have you taken anything for the D? Immodium did the trick for me but it only lasted for a coulple of hours. I cant beleive that your doctors haven't found anything yet. You'd think with all the technology we have now, we would never suffer. I hope you get to feeling better and keep posting.

no its not an eating disorder i have severe pain when i eat anything....i know this is sad to say but if it was an eating disorder i'd be thankful to have an answer but no it isnt ever doctor immediately asks that bc of the weight loss but if you eat something like a ritz cracker or a piece of toast and are doubled over in pain then going to the bathroom for 4 hours of course you are going to loose weight....i have taken immodium it rarely works, ive taken anti spasm medicine too so i dont know im going to see a specialist in nyc but drs are really stumped now bc they dont understand how i could have gastroporesis and diarrhea immediately after eating because gastroporesis means you arent digesting food and slowing down the movement yet im going to the bathroom right away so i'm really just hoping now to get an answer

Hi lilyanne,
Welcome to HealingWell! :-)

What you're describing doesn't necessarily fit the IBS criteria. Your case seems extreme. Have your docs had you swallow the camera pill so they can track your entire digestive system (all 30ft of it)? It's quite possible for you to have Crohn's and they haven't been able to find the inflammation site.
You should be working with a nutritionist to help you better figure out what you can eat and how to get your nutrients.

Do you take any probiotics or digestive enzymes?

i have tried taking probiotics they didnt work, i have no swallowed the pill although i have heard of it but im glad you agree that it doesnt really describe ibs because that is what i said but they are still saying until they can find anything its ibs. i have thought about seeing a nutritionist when i first started getting pain but now its gotten to the point where it doesnt matter what i eat. i do personally feel it is crohns disease and 2 of my doctors were under that impression but after i got tested for it i never heard anything back about that so i just thought there was no way that i could have it, but when i started researching crohns i learned that it could start affecting other parts of the digestive system when it isnt being treated which could possibly explain why they found that im not digesting food. im not a doctor so i dont want to diagnose myself but that is what i have felt it was for the past 2 months. thank you guys for your opinions!
