Hello all. Just returned from a fantastic few days at a piano festival in Oxford but ... IBS has been thrown into havoc by different food, water and exercise levels. Can being out of routine throw you this much out of sync?

Still glad I went - the young pianists were wonderful, but intestines not impressed.

Thanks for your help.l

Oh yeah. Big time. I was on one of my annual family womens trip to Chicago a few years ago. To discover my period started. I was just one big mess. Bm's coming, one after another. My in-laws wanted to sit in a hotel bar sipping after dinner drinks, but I had to keep using the bathroom. I found a lovely bathroom, off the beaten path at our hotel, near a reception hall type room that wasn't being used. So this bathroom was deserted, had several stalls. Since I was all alone, I began crying. Later cried some more but two of my SIL's saw me. They didn't quite understand why I was emotional. I wanted to have a normal body on an out of town trip! And I wanted to be HOME. I had also had a larger than normal meal that evening too. Big mistake - too much food.

It passed but what a trip that one was.

On subsequent trips, I eat very, very light. So light my 4 SIL's notice but my gut doesn't do the - one/two shuffle or revolt - and I spend less time in the bathroom. I just eat better after that trip each year. It is a shame we have to watch diet on trips. Years ago I used to pig out on trips. No more!

So I do feel for you but now you are HOME - home, isn't that just the most wonderful word?

Hi Easta. I'm so sorry IBS spoiled the piano fest for you. It's one of the most frustrating parts of this disorder. Feeling crampy and ucky is bad enough when we're home, but when we're trying to get out and enjoy ourselves it's just not fair to have our stomachs revolt against us! Breaking routine is always a big problem for me. I always try to scope out where the nearest restroom is whenever I go anywhere.
