hi

first post here, dont normally discuss it TBH

my IBS started over a year ago now, i have some really odd symptoms, ill explain...

i was at work and i started having testicle pain for no reason, it got a lot worse over the next few weeks and eventually i found myself off work speaking to doctors who either thought i was imagining the whole thing or that i was "pulling a fast one" for a works note

i had the normal symptoms like bad stomach cramps and diahorrea and a feeling i can only describe as "odd" which is what i get the most

i can also get out of breath really quickly when my IBS hits which makes me incapable of doing a lot of things that you take for granted

i was fortunate that i have medical insurance and i saw a really good doctor on the private that gave me the ultrasound just about everywhere and i had endoscopy/colonoscopy, nothing was found to be wrong with me hence the diagnosis of IBS

i was told that the stomach, nuts and lungs were connected up and my symptoms allthough odd were not unheard of

recently my symptoms have shifted, no more painful nuts and i do not really get out of breath at all, i just get very painful stomach cramps and nausea that eventually makes me vomit my meal, also my diahorrea is pretty bad recently and has had me off work today along with the vomiting

my question here today is how many of you relate to my symptoms and is it possible i have something else wrong with me, my symptoms do not seem to follow the trend?

regards, brian

Hi T.F.S.,
Welcome to HealingWell! :-)

You are not the first guy through here who has complained about testicle pain. You say that's not the case anymore, but I just wanted to let you know you are not THAT odd.

As for the nausea... I wouldn't say that is uncommon either. Lots of us have nausea. I'm almost certain a day doesn't pass where I feel nauseous like I might throw up. I think mine is related to either not eating (empty stomach nausea) or eating too much (I can sure be a piggy). Anyway, vomitting is not a common IBS symptom, but it does happen. I've seen a handful of vomitters run through here. I, on the other hand, have a fear of puking so I do anything in my power not to.

When you were scoped, did your doc take a biopsy to test for Celiac's? How about being tested for H.pylori, lactose intolerance, or parasites?
Are you on any medication that can be causing your nausea? Are you on antispasmodics for the pain?

Lots of us on the website drink tea to help the nausea, or we find some type of ginger (caps, pills, candy, ale, etc.) to help us deal with nausea. Have you tried any of these yet?

As for the D, are you watching your diet or maybe even keeping a food journal? If you search around the site you’ll see a great post from lnape about calcium. Calcium taken daily can help control your D. We think it’s safer than taking Imodium on a daily basis.

Again, welcome to the site... you came to a great place!

hi mate

when being scoped i was told there was lots of biopsy's, negative for everything and i was told everything checked out apart from a small hietus hernia

i was prescribed with ispagel and mebeverine but i must admit i didnt take these for long as i did not feel that they helped

maybe the hernia has got worse as the new symptoms include waking up at night with bile in my throat/mouth (heatburn i guess) and waking up with bouts of D, 3-4 times per night, big pain in the chest that gets a lot worse if i move in certian ways

also it does not seem to make much difference with what i eat, i could eat a vindaloo and the next day my symptoms would be no worse (on average) but i tend to be very careful what i eat and i like to think that i have a good fresh diet with lots of fibre

Have you had a HIDA scan to check your gall bladder function (ultrasound is not enough)? Vomiting is not very common with IBS (especially not frequent vomiting), but it's a very common side-effect of gall bladder problems, as is acid-reflux, diarrhea, and painful attacks in the middle of the night. You should especially wonder about your GB if your poop or vomit either one is ever yellow or green, because that's usually sign of bile coming from a bad GB. Also, bile poop BURNS and burns and burns. The more yellow or green it is, the worse it burns.

Hmm...did your doc ever check you for an inguinal hernia, by any chance? The old "turn-your-head-and-cough" thing?

yes, cough and drop has been done many times now

my stools can be very yellow but do not normally burn...they do occasionally though, vomit in the mornings is orange bile

i saw my specialist last night and he seemed concerned about my recent symptom shift and has sent me for more blood tests and a CT scan that i will hopefully attend later this week
