Steroids are not normally used for IBS. They are used for Crohn's disease and IBD and I think Diverticulitis/diverticulosis but I remember once mentioning it to my Doctor and he said not for IBS. I have it at home for lung flareups and thought it would help.

It really does sound like Crohns as there are definite attacks with Crohns. I believe there are some new meds for it. I think Remicade is used for it even though it is not approved for it. Crohn's is very painful. Stress is a big factor is Crohn's.

I would definitely go back to your doc and ask about the steroids. It is definitely not normally used for IBS. If s/he suspects Crohn's, then you should be going through a battery of tests. Have you been scoped?
