Is it safe to take one capsule of docusate calcium per day, in the longterm?  It's the only laxative type product I take and I assume being dependent on it is not so bad, seeing as it's only a stool softener.

After a bowel movement, I intentionally skip taking it the next day, hopefully this prevents dependency to some extent?

I think stool softners are OK but they really don't clean out all the nocks and crannies like a firmer stool wood which is better for your overall health.
