I am new to HealingWell.com and I am receiving comfort by reading these posts.  I have had D now for 6 years.  I took generic Imodium to allow me to funtion somewhat each day.  (20mg per day).  I finally started to go to a Gi Doc a year ago to find out what is going on.
I have had a colonoscopy which came up normal.  I have had a endoscopy which came up normal.  They are trying flagyl to see if I have some bacteria.  The reason why is I have not had any antibiotics for a very long time.  I took the first round of Flagyl 1500mn a day for ten days.  Started feeling better stopped taking Imodium.  Then it got worse.  The Doc said that I should do another round of flagyl 10 day round because the first round might not have killed the closed spores.  I have one more day left.  Correct me if I am wrong but flagyl can cause D?
I have been reading about taking calcium to help with the D.  So I started taking that yesterday.  Today I took my flagyl and a calcium at lunch and I had severe D.
Wondering if taking those two so close can cause that and if anyone has other tips.

Thanks,

I don't know about the 2 of them together, but I felt much worse after taking Flagyl. Antibiotics can, and will cause a fungal (yeast) overgrowth, so maybe that is what you are experiencing. Am I right in inferring you had taken antibiotics before your first D symptoms appeared 6 years ago? That could be a cause of your D, even years after your initial dose of antibiotics. If you suspect a fungal condition, and starve the fungus (eliminate grains and sugar for awhile) you will notice improvement. That would be a sure tell-tale sign that you have a fungal condition. Lab tests won't pick up on that. Are you on probiotics? If not, I'd recommend them.

I cannot remember the last time I took antibiotics.  Never went to the doctor.  No insurance.  My doctor now gave me a sample of align to try.  I started taking it but stopped while taking flagyl.  I wasn't too thrilled about the cost of it either if I was going to have to take it forever.  Now that I think about it I would rather spend the money than deal with this D.
I did see an allergist and he put me on a elimination diet and I did that for a month and felt the same.  Could it take longer than a month for results.
Thanks,

What kind of elimination diet? Were you taking Flagyl at the same time? If you ever took antibiotics in your life, even as a small child, yeast overgrowth could be implicated, even years later.

The diet I was put on was real basic. I could eat red meat, poultry, and pork. A couple of fruits like a[;;es, and pears. No berries or grapes. There wasn't alot of vegetables that I could eat. I ate corn. THey said to take out all potatoe products, tomatoes, no products with msg, no mariandes for the meat. No wheat. Most products have in there ingrediants list natural flavorings. From what my allergist said is that there can be msg in natural flavorings so I cut out all products that had natural flavorings listed. That was tough.
I could eat rice so that was a nice side dish with my meat. I could eat salad too. (sorry for the jumpinaround I am doing this from memoryand its been awhile) I would make my own salad dressing with olive oil balsamic vinegar italian spice onions and garlic which I could eat. also salt and pepper.
No juices or pop so I drank water. No diary I dont think either. I did this for a month.

I had an interesting last three days. I went down to Chicago with my friend for business and we were talking about my problem and he started to tell me about his family and what they have going on. His mom and dad and himself have gastrisis. He would get it bad and he would vomit stomach acid. The doctor gave him some stuff and he has since gotten over it.
But his mom and dad had it and they would vomit and have D. They started taking acid reducer and it has helped control the diarrhea. He thought I should try it so I went and bought som Zantac 150mg and started taking 2 of them with each meal. IT HELPED!! I didnt bind me up but it allowed me to function during my training. I would eat breakfast and lunch and not have to go like normal. I could sit in the class and not have to excuse myself to go to the restroom. That was awesome.
On our drive home which was 6 hours and having mexican food for lunch and having food on the way home and did not have to go. I went right before we left but until 7 hrs later did I have to go. I couldnt believe.
I am giong to contact my doctor. Is there better things to take than zantac and have you ever heard of this?

Thanks
