Hi,  I am sorry to have to ask this question but......I have had IBS D for to many years to count and lately I have been having a "spasm" in my rectum.  I don't know how to explain it nicely.  To put it bluntly my butt feels like it is contracting and then loosening.  Does that make any sense.  It is very annoying.  Does this happen to anyone else and how do I stop it!!!!  Please help

Ouch! Sounds like rectal spasms indeed...the nerves down there get irritated and you get involuntary muscle contraction that hurts like crazy. If I ever get those I sit in a hot bath for as long as I can stand it. This might sound bizarre but you also might try some yoga. Another option would be to visit a muscular medicine specialist (doctor of osteopathic medicine) and get some manipulative treatments done on your pelvis which would probably help immeasurably!
