I am new to this site....I am 26 years old and I got diagnosed with mild proctitis in June...I had a colonoscopy done...everything was fine up until a couple weeks ago with a little blood now and then, itchy to where it bleeds when I scratch and sometimes painful bowel movements...my doc told me to add fiber to my diet when I left after my colonoscopy and I have...how can you make these symptoms go away?... Thanks so much

If you have proctitis, which is inflammation of the rectom (typically from either crohn's or ulcerative colitis) then you'll need rectal meds to treat it...all your doc said after telling you that you had proctitis was add fibre to your diet???? What a lousy dr. a good dr. would know better that that, you need rectal meds to treat it and although fibre is a good idea, it's not gonna directly treat the proctitis issue.

it did go away after that for months but came back, so I should call him and get meds then? I think it's becomming worse from me scratching? idk

Most definitely you should call him and get rectal meds again...what kind of rectal meds did he give you? cortifoam works best, but any rectal med needs to be used continually until it's cleared up.

Do you have crohn's or ulcerative colitis?

He didn't give me anything at all and said I didn't have UC or Crohns just a minor inflammation...me and my hubby experienced in anal sex (sorry to put it out there) and I do shave there at times so I Guess he is thinking it's not that serious...it did go away for awhile but I got constipated and had a hard stool and it came back...Thanks again

Oh, well then I would assume that your issues may be more likely because of the anal sex...I have not advice on that for you, I'm also assuming your dr is aware of it and that may be why he didn't give you a script for it because it's not an IBD.

no problem, just keep an eye on things, you'd be surprised at how something like IBD can slam into a persons life without having a clue it's going to get ya, that's how it happend for me and most likely for all the IBDers out there.

stay safe!

Hi,

I'm not a medic and can't therefore give you medical advice but I can tell you about my own experience.  I had radiation proctitis which caused severe internal bleeding and my GP arranged for me to see a gastro-enterology consultant who specialised in problems of this kind.  The consultant recommended sucralfate enemas which did the trick for me in a very short time so it might be worth raising this with your GP or seeing a gastro-enterology specialist yourself.

Best of luck,

Bill

Run to another doctor. Your symptoms sound serious.
