Hi everyone,

I am 23yrs old. I am normal person who enjoys the normal things in life. My bowel habits have always been a problem since I was a baby I had to have an op to remove a large part of my large intestine due to a prenatal blockage.

Since I started Uni and finsihed I have suffered with strange bowels. I am not "regular" 2xa day 1x a day etc. I can go for days with nothing then suddenly have to go immediatly, I have diarrhoea on and off. Sometimes I have diarrhoea so severe it wakes me up in the night and the next day I will be hugely constipated.

If eat certain foods such as spicy foods etc I get the most awful bloating and cramping, often causing me to double up in pain until it passes. When it does its often offensive smelling. I also get this stange pain in my back passage that sometimes wakes me up in the night.

I have seen my doctor who has conducted an examination and says there are no masses its not cancer. There is no blood and my bowel habit has always been like this. It is really affecting my life as I never quite know when I;m going to need to go and I dont get much warning. I just wondered if these symptoms sound familiur and maybe has anyone got any adivce of what I should do next because its really getting me down!!!

idea

Hi,

I have expereinced similar sort of problems. Although I always use to be fine with the bowel movements until I about 22 (im now 29). I can put an exact date on when things started to go awry but I did hav a horrible few years. I've been to the doctors many times, had a million and one blood tests that all came back fine. A good few examinations resulting in me being told that there was nothing abnormal!

I managed to get refered to a dietitian who gave me a few tips. I have managed to get it slightly more under control these days by cutting out dairy products, and I cant go near anything spicy.
