hello all....Well I am going to have my 1st colonostopy on Monday to start to deal with the loose stools I have been having for the last 20 years....yes I said 20 years. I ws using Lomotil (1 a day) for a few years and it was working excellent but now md. says she will not give me anymore until I have a colonostopy. So Monday is the day. I have a question for those experienced ones on this. I lift weights 5 times a week,I have built myself to the point where I am very happy with myself at 38 years old.My thing is that I am always tryingt o gain weight. I am currently 235 lbs. Am I going to lose alot of weight with the prep kit and not eating the day before the procedure? What are others experience? Like Ive been hearing some say they lost 5 lbs.Believe it or not that is my biggest fear of this entire procedure....IM not worried about the procedure itself,im worried about the not eating the entire day and losing what I have been working my ass of for the last 4-5 years. Any input would be great to put my mind at ease.
Thanks in advance to all!!!!!!

I am not qualified to answer your exact question. But I'm hoping someone here will! This "answer" comes from someone who has to skip meals and feels so much better when I eat light! I am so far from the other spectrum than you are. But if your concerns are on how many ounces or pounds you will lose from 1 day of prep and 1 day of procedure (you can resume eating afterwards, you just cannot drive home, but I would suggest you return to eating slowly), then I think you will do just fine. Most people are worried to have their first colonoscopy! So it sure seems to me you're going into this procedure with a good attitude. I was pretty freaked out having my first (I've had 9 colonoscopies and 2 Flex-sigs) but the actual procedure is nothing to worry about. The prep is the hardest part of a colonoscopy to deal with. I'm sure you'll do fine and be back to normal eating in no time.
Marsky/Mary's story.....
- Diagnosed with rectal cancer, April 1999 - Stage I, no treatment necessary
(5 hour colon resection: 90% sigmoid removed, 15 inches of colon removed, gall bladder removed, given temporary colostomy)
- Colostomy reversal, June 1999
- Left with IBS/D symptoms, multiple bm's every day
- On a low residue diet at least 75% of the time
- Takes Colace 50 mg each evening

All in all I do okay, I just use the bathroom A LOT! But I survived and beat cancer!

you won't lose any permanent weight, it is mostly water loss and will be back on very soon. Most people are trying to lose weight so you are in the minority. You must be very tall to weigh that much and not be overweight unless it is all muscle and if it is you will not lose any muscle in 2 days. I would not overeat because of fear of losing weight after the proceedure though as it is a shock to the system but you can eat normally.

Thanks for the replies to put my mind at ease a little. But yes I am 6'1" and have been working out hard for quite a few years so I am not overweight at all. Just a typical guy that works out afraid of losing what he worked so hard to get. But all my prep is done...man thats alot of stuff to drink, not a sbad as I thought though. Hopefully all goes well tomorrow and I am having a good lunch by noontime...thanks again!!!!

Well colonostopy is over and like you all said it was nothing!! Dont remember a thing thank god...lol   Anyway the md. says that all looked good,no problems at all. He also said he would like to do a Gastroscope on me just to be sure all is alright in my stomach...I guess before he officially tells me what I kind of knew all along....That I have IBS-D. Although the Bebefiber that he suggested I take has been working wonderfully for me. Really take the urgency away. I would like to try the Fibercon though seeing as that alot of people on here say it is better than the Benefiber.
Thanks again to all!!!!

sounds like your doctor is on top of this. The gastroscope I believe is the same as endoscopy and you will be out for that but it is much quicker and you don't have to not eat except for like 12 hours before. YOu really must be full of muscle at that weight and 6'1". Once they rule out any physical problems then they can say Oh, you have IBS cause it doesn't show anything physical. It is a functional problem and we all don't function the same. I guess some Doctors are still doing the drink all the stuff things and others are doing the Fleets and others are doing pills to clean us out. They all have their preference. I hear that is a lot to drink I have always had the Fleets which is only a total of a few ozs. Much easier.
