Good morning everyone & thanks to anyone who replies.  I am usually over on the Fibro forum, but have a strange question for you guys today.  Here goes.  I have IBS & have had it for years.  For the past 4 months, it has been under control for the first time in years (yay me!) except for one thing. Not often, but here & there, I will wake up during the night with medium strength stomach pains.  It is not "flu like" tummy pains, but lower, then I feel my lower left part of my intestines and it is protruding out quite a lot and I can actually feel stool, that is what is sticking out!  Sure enough, when this happened last night, I woke up this morning and within 10 min I was in having a larger than usual (firm, thank goodness!) bowel movement!
Do any of you ever get this "stool protrusion" right out of your lower bowel area?  I am severely underweight, so not sure if I could gain some weight if this would stop happening.  It also only happens at night.  My bowels like to work the night shift I guess!
Thanks for any replies, and Happiest, Healthiest Holiday wishes to all!
Brenda

Are you sure it wasn't a gas bubble that suddenly broke up and then the stool was allowed to pass? Have you had a coloscopy ever?

Hey Canyon,

No, it is definitely not gas, I am sure it is my stool I can feel.  It is really tender to touch there too, but only at that time, other times, it is fine to the touch.  I had a colonoscopy just over a year and a half ago, to rule out Crohn's, it seemed pretty cut and clear I had it, as did my father, but nope, it only turned up some other bowel issues, but not Crohn's, thank goodness.  I was not having this issue when I saw my GI specialist, so maybe should make another appt and tell her about this latest occurence.  Funny though, my bowel movements have never been so good and so regular!

Could it be diverticulosis? You might want to keep a food diary. I don't think you could feel stool throw all that. The colon is pretty tough stuff to feel thru as it is muscle and tissue. Check out this site on Diverticulosis. It is not a medical site as you will see but it is pretty accurate and at least understandable. Good luck in finding out what it is and why. I jsut don't think the colon is thin enough to feel stool but it could be stuck in a diverticuli or something.
