Hello,

I am really looking to find similar experiences, I have been going to the Doctors since Aug 14th with pain that has not gone away and nobody wants to do anything. THe pain has not gone away, it goes from being tolerable (most of the time) to hardly able to walk it hurts so bad. I have had a scope, they found gastritis, reflux and Hpylori but the GI says that is not causing the pain. The H Pylori was treated with triple therapy for a week. I have had Xrays (inluding bowel follow through), Ultrasound (lower Pelvis because they thought it was ovaries), and a CT Scan. Everything so far has come up fine on the tests, i am extremley worried because the pain has not gone away, does anyone think this could be IBS? Everything that I read said that the pain is lessened after a BM, this is not the case with me, the pain never gets any relief.

I am waiting to get a colonoscopy (2nd opinon) because my GI was not listening to me and told me that I was to young to get a Colonoscopy. I am 30 years old and have been in constant pain for over 4.5 mths.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Also, since he did not biopsy for Celiac, I had the blood test done two weeks ago but waiting on the reslts.

Where is your pain?
Has your gallbladder been checked?
Have you had an EGD (upper endoscopy)? This procedure is the best way to test for Celiacs, as they biopsy the small intestine.
How are your bowl habits?
Could you be lactose intolerant?
What sorts of home remidies have you tried for the pain?

Many of us IBSers use antispasmodics for the cramping pain, and also heating pads. In addition, I like to drink tea, as some are great on the gut and a natural antispasmodic.
# Chamomile (soothes the nerves)
# Fennel (calms muscles, improves digestion, helps flatulance)
# Mint (eases GI trouble, relaxant)
# Lemon Grass (antispasmodic, anti-irritant)
# Ginger (eases cramping & nausea)
# Green (promotes digestion, overall health)

I have to give you kudos for going for a 2nd opinion. Good for you for standing up for your health!

I almost forgot... What blood test did you have done for Celiac? Prometheus Labs?

I'm sorry I have no idea what the blood test that was done for Celiac and I did not write it down. I did have the scope done on my stomach, but as I said, the GI I was seing was awful and he did not even do the biopsy.

THe pain that I have is upper left side, above my belly button to the left. THe pain is never cramping, its just this contstant ache and when the pain is really bad if feels like my stomach is in knots? I dont know I cant really explain it other than a dull ache, except when extreme pain. Bowel habits are usually OK, at least it was when the pain started (aug). Now I have diarehea a lot and go once every day or every other day. I hardly ever have a formed movement now.

Thanks very much for answering my post. I will take any advice anyone gives me.
I can't find a Doctor that seems to care that I have had 5 mths of constant pain and I am worried it is something very serious.

I have very similar pains to you and I have also had bad experiences with GI doctors. It seems like if you don't have cancer or crohns they don't really want to deal with you at all. The herbal teas recommended should help a bunch. You might want to see a naturopath and try an elimination diet to see if you can pinpoint any foods that upset your stomach (if you haven't already).

I also have been suffering from this. I have been searching for over a year to find out what's going on. I also have chronic hives that have appeared, and I don't know if they're related. I'm still searching to see what can be done or what I can take to my doctor for my next appt. It seems like the patient has to do all the work these days. :(

I too have a similar pain going on and no one can come up with a diagnoss. My problems started 3 years ago.Went to a gastro dr because of pain that I was having.Seems that my gallbladder wasnt working at its normal range(no stones)so out it came.Ive had problems with my digestive system ever since.First it was IBS,then acid reflux(I did not have heartburn but had other symptoms) then it was diverticulitis ,then a hernia.I have been on acid blockers for 3 years off and on,None of them have helped..I am bloated all of the time ,and can go on for days without having a bm.I am tired ALL of the time.My dr put me on antidepressants.I am NOT depressed ,whats depressing is that I am still in pain on a daily basis and cant get no relief!!!This condition(whatever it is ) is making my life a living H___!!! I am MISERABLE.Ive had a colonoscopy a few years ago and also endoscopy.Only a polyp was removed. Now ive got this dull pain in my left side under my rib that is continuous and it radiates into my back.Ive had kidney stones before and its not the same kind of pain.Went back to my dr and shes given me yet another bottle of pills to add to my collection.I dont want a mask for my condition I want somebody to tell me whats going on and quit the guesswork.I finally got an appt with another dr at the end of the month for some second opinions.I WANT MY LIFE BACK !!!! confused

I keep checking in to see what you guys find out.  It seems that most of our symptoms are the same.  I go back to the GI dr. on 1/28/09.  I'll see what comes of it.  I was first referred to him in July 2008.  At that time, he performed an endoscopy and nothing really came of it that related to the pain I felt.  The biopsy showed no sign of celiac's, which i thought was a possibility because I have chronic hives they've yet to figure the cause.

The time line for me is somewhat like this:
November 2007 - Had a car accident where I thought I injured my rib.  (From researching on the web, I've found that multiple diseases can be triggered from some sort of trauma, like that of an accident.)  They told me they believed that it might just be bruised because nothing showed up on xray.  So, I waited about before complaining about the pain again.

March 2008 - Developed chronic hives.  They prescribed xyzal, which significantly helps with the itching, but if I do not take it within 24 hours, I'm back to itching.  I still have this symptom to date and do not know if it is related to the pain, but if anyone else can confirm this, it'd be nice to know.  I was tested for allergies and it seems like I'm set for a strict water diet, since they found I was allergic to wheat, yeast, soy, eggs and corn.  I'm not really sure how great that test was.

May 2008 - Returned to PCP to see why I still had rib pain.  She thought after feeling the pain that I had problems with my colon instead of my rib and got me into the GI dr.

July 2008 - Finally made it to GI dr, with the above results.  He didn't agree with my PCP and decided against the colonoscopy.  I think I should've pushed harder for it.  I'm hoping to have better results on the 28th or find another dr.

I'm really curious to see if anyone has the hives thing going on too.  Mine took months between the pain and the hives to develop, so please post so we might be able to find some answers together.  thanks.

How old are you? I know most insurance companies wont pay for a colonoscopy or routine endoscopy until you are 50 years old.I am 53 and when I first started having problems I wasnt quite 50 so I had 2 wait a few months. The pain that I have bad now sounds similar 2 yours. My pain got real bad after jumping onto a horse bareback(My daughter bought a horse and I was showing her how to get on,)Dr thought my rib was broken, sent me for an exray which came up ok.So he then sent me to a lung dr(I smoke)and he said it wasnt my lungs.I do get this rash that comes and goes on my butt.It always comes back in the same place.Kinda looks like diaper rash and doesnt itch bad but is uncomfortable at times.I also go back 2 the dr on the 28 th.Let me know and I will you 2.

Ok maybe Im getting somewhere now.Went to a urologist yesterday because of the pain and Ive had a real strong odor when I urinate.Kinda smelled like sulphur(really bad you could smell it just being in the bathroom with me)Talked to the dr about the pain ive been having in my left side radiating into my back. He  did a urinalysis and found blood in it.Possibly yet another kidney stone.Ive had kidney stone surgery before and this pain is different.Thats because of the location of the stone.Going for a ct scan next week.Im not to thrilled about yet another surgery but if it will get rid of this gnawing pain im all for it.Will post again when I get results. smhair

kao772 Dont be worried about tomorrow.I know the stuff they make you drink is horrible.Stay CLOSE to a bathroom.Let me know what they tell you.As for me my pain is awful today.Im severly bloated and cant stand it.I am hurting in my stomach bad.I cant see how the urologist is thinking kidney stone again, but I have a history from them.I guess my cat scan will tell all and then If he says its not a kidney stone then im back to square one again. My hubby says I need to get agressive with my drs and they need to find the root of this problem. And I worry too and that doesnt make things better.Im just trying to get by day to day with this pain.keep me posted. sad

Cindy, about two weeks ago I started trying to eat glutten free trying to determine if it was celicac disease.
Although i still have pain it doesnt seem to be as bad. you may want to try the same thing and see if the pain lessens.

From what I have read, the most reliable test is to have a scope done and they biopsy your stomach.
THe good news about this is it is suppsoed to give you some relief between a week or two. You have to cut out a lot; wheat, bread, cereal etc but there are some packaged glutten free foods that you can buy.

I havent actually found a great diet yet to follow, i made chilli and cut out pasta, bread etc and feel like the pain is somewhat better already

Hi all, I too had diarreah for 10 years and not one Dr. did me any good. The gastro. Dr.s I went to didnt' listne to me either...but I persisted and I think ( I really hope) I've found somethings that work for me...hopefully they will work for you too. Please read my long post an another thread I posted earlier tonight. All of you who have diarreah and who've had test with no real resualts or answers to why you are haveing diahreea (other than being told you have IBS)....(I've got to wonder if that's not just a pat anser Dr.s give when they really dont' have any other ansers)...anyway...go to this web site and read...it's a very easy and quick read and just maybe you will find out what's wrong with you...I did and I'm quite sure this is my problem. I got the meds and I've been diarreah free for over 3 weeks now...and trying out foods Ive not had for years!
Also cindy53 and Ka07722 I too thought I had Celliac...and pancreaitis and several other things...all tests turned out negative...but I still had lots of pain under my rib cage and in the am, in the mid back..and as soon as I went to the bathroom, the pain was briefly gone...then 4 weeks ago I foudnthis web site gallbladderattack.com and tired the beet recipe...it really works! and within seconds! I'll dont think I'll ever be without it in my frig (en thougth I no longer seem to need it...it's my security blaket) I was going to post just the short version of my long post...but so many of you are in dire pain...I want to tell you what worked for me and hopefully it will work for you..I hope no one get mad at me for this long post...I just hope it will help someone not suffer like I and so many others have!
Hi, this is a bit long, but I no longer have diarrhea!
I too had diarrhea, 8-15 times a day for 10 years! I was told it was IBS. I had several tests...all negative. I've had 3 scopes, ultrasound, and many blood tests...all negative. I've tried cutting out all kinds of things in my diet, but I never got the combination just right...because I really didn't know what was wrong and apparently neither did any of my doctors or the Gastroenterologists I went to see. I do a lot of reading on the Internet and as of 2 years ago I almost totally gave up on MDs and turned mostly to alternative meds, but they really didn't help either. That was because I didn't' know what was really wrong and it's so very easy to take the wrong combination of foods, liquids, or meds or alternative meds. Just think about how many different things you put into your mouth each day and then try and figure out which one is causing the problem or which 2 or 3...so my case was hard to diagnose, but I think I now have most of the answer.

The diarrhea is now gone and as long as I don't eat the wrong things and take my meds, I don't have any diarrhea, and no pain in my back and no pain under my rib cage or along my flanks and no indigestion.

Basically, I went on the general gallbladder diet and do not eat certain foods and I take my new meds daily and I take a beet recipe when I have any pain (which was constant for weeks until 4 1/2 weeks ago when I discovered web site with beet recipe, now I rarely need to take the beet recipe).

The gallbladder diet is basically to not consume any fats (nothing fried or made with most oils (some oils are OK) and to avoid certain foods. So I stay away from all fats (except virgin olive oil & flax oil. A few others are also OK), I don't eat any eggs, no sugar (this is because I'm hypoglycemic, and I've also found that sugary foods, cake, candy, ..basic sugary junk food, will cause me to have diarrhea), I don't eat red meat (I have some arthritis), and don't I eat any dairy (I'm also lactose intolerant). I don't drink any caffeine or alcohol. I mostly drink bottled water.

Also, I take my new meds 2 xs a day and I take my beet recipe as needed and I keep my life calm as possible. As most of you know, getting upset (good or bad) will bring on diarrhea. So now, being calm is very important and when things happen that are upsetting, I take Kava Kava that I get at my health food store, Sprouts. It works very well for me.

After 10 years of diarrhea, a ruined career, loss of friends and family, loss of my marriage, and spending the last 2 years reading and researching day and night to find what I could do to stop my problems, I found the web sites that gave me the keys to end my problems. Approx 3 1/2 weeks ago I found a really great web site that was crucial to relieving the pain and leading me to the Dr. 's web site where I found an explanation and diagnosis my problem and the meds I now take. These web sites told me what would work, what I needed to do 1st and what meds I needed to take and the recipe I need to make and take hourly.

So, 1st things 1st. If you are having pain under your rib cage, on the right side or on both sides or at the top of your stomach or in your mid back, or along your flanks and you have diarrhea, you need to get rid of the pain before you can do anything. Pain stops all of us dead in our tracks....even if we manage to do some things, we will not be at our best. So, if you are in this type of pain and have diarrhea and have symptoms like all/most of the other people here who have IBS, then...go to gallbladderattack.com and read and see if the beet recipe will work for your symptoms and it does..then make it up and take it ASAP! It really does work and it will stop the pain in just seconds of taking it and it even tastes pretty good! I've used it many times.

Now that I'd stopped the pain, I still had the diarrhea, so I continued to read the web site and found some hints that led me to do more research until I found the web site of Dr. Habba... (habbasyndrome.com). That was where for the 1st time in 10 years I actually saw my symptoms described in print. My symptoms actually had a name! Habba Syndrome. All the other web sites I'd been to only had part of my symptoms or I only had part of their symptoms..either way...I still had my problem. Dr. Habba's web site does a wonderful job of making the info easy to read and quick to give you the name of the Rx that will control the diarrhea. The medicine he prescribes is Cholestyramine and guess what...it's an old drug to lower cholesterol (and it stops the buildup and continual flowing of the liver bile...which was causing my diarrhea).

Three weeks ago I went to a new gastroenterologist and gave him a print out from Dr. Habba's web site and asked for Cholestyramine, the medicine that Dr. Habba prescribes. I was thrilled that my Dr. gave them to me. My past gastroenterologist would not listen to what I'd found on the Internet, so this time I printed the info off the web site and guess what...the new Dr. agreed and gave me an Rx for the new meds!

So my suggestion is any info you want to present to your Dr., print them out off the web site where you find them and give those nice new copies to your Dr. in a new, clean, file folder (An really good presentation still counts for a lot!)

As soon as I left my new Gastrologist's office. I had the Rx filled and as soon as I got home, I mixed it up and drank it (it's a power to lower cholesterol). It taste's OK, but a little gritty. It's tastes better with cold water than room temp. water. The diarrhea slowed down immediately and within 1 day it was totally stopped!

That's where I've been at for 3 weeks now. Other than I'm now getting to eat lots of foods that I'd given up on thinking I could ever eat again! I just learned that there is lactose free ice cream...and boy does it taste good after 10 years of going without it! I go back to my new gastroenterologist on Feb. 9th. and I feel really good that I've finally found something that works.

What I'm now taking is: a power you mix with water, 2 times a day, named Cholestyramine. I also keep on hand, all made up in the frig, the beet recipe(which I hardly ever need now, but it's like a security blanket for me, so I keep it all made up in my refrigerator :). The beet recipe is 1 grated up organic beet, juice from 1/2 a lemon, and 2 table spoons of fresh flax oil(you can get the oil at a health food store), but you will need to go to the web site (gallbladderattack.com) to see how often you need to take it and in what amount.

In my case I needed all 3, the diet, the Cholestyramine, and the beet recipe. I'm now feeling fine and eating many foods I've not been able to eat for many many years. After all my reading, I think (and hope) this is really an answer to my problem. I hope you all have as good luck as I've had......my best wishes to all of you...I know how you feel!

Thanks for posting back cindy.  Sorry its been awhile and sorry to hear you're in pain with a stone. I'm still waiting to go, but in the mean time, I've been researching and I think my problem might be from hypothyroidism.  I went to http://www.drkaslow.com/html/thyroid.html

My blood work, when they did it awhile back showed nothing, but this seemed to discredit just looking at the numbers.  I too need to be more aggressive, so I'm taking it to my doctor on Wednesday.  Good luck to you and all that have posted!

Well, I went to the Dr. today and after I reviewed my symptoms with him, he wants to do a colonoscopy. I'm scheduled for February 24th, so it'll be awhile. He thinks there a possibility I may have Crohn's disease. I took him the info on hypothyroidism and thinks it worth exploring with an endocrinologist. I'm going to try to make an appt soon.

Hi Everyone,

I am new to this website and boy am I glad I decided to google a few things yesterday (this site came up).  I, like the original poster, had major pain near the upper left side a year ago plus mucus and a little blood.  I went in for a colonoscopy but they only found some (can't remember the name of it, but tissue they biopsied off).  I have a huge family history of ulcerative colitis so I can not take it for granted.  I basically was told I have IBS and take care of myself.  I went off any vitamins thinking they were the issue.

Now, this year I am having the same pain bit more on the left side completely, mucus all over again.  I do not tend to eat as well or exercise as much in the winter so it could be the "bad" living.

My question is: should I worry about having bouts of pain, small skinny poops that seem to empty my whole body out all at once (or within a couple of trips to the bathroom)?  I don't want to live my life in fear - but at the same time I have watched my Dad and two Aunts live with the old fashion  bag type colonstemy and do not want to go there!

Thank you,
C

Hello all!

I'm trying to figure out what's going on with me, I'm a 27 year old truck driver, which makes it hard to get the doctors. I doplan on seeing one asap though.

anyways I've had one episode a year for the past 3 years of rectal bleeding (bright red) with no pain after and with my stools varying in the amount of blood that comes out, then there's always this mucus looking thing that comes out by itself or with my stool at the end of the episodes, in a form kinda like a long fat loogie (whiteish/pink in color) I also have had a few narrow stools but that is not very often, I've also had some abdominal cramping this time being so bad I almost went to the hospital after the pain I had diarraha (once) then it subsided and went to a dull sore feeling (left side mainly but also in the genral lower abdominal area)(this is a new sympotom for me) the next day I started to bleed. these episodes only last for a few days but this time it went away then reappered and lasted for another 2 days. I'm feeling a bit scared, I've always over looked it because it always went away but now this being the third time I'm concered. I know it could be anything but UC seems to be more of my symptoms. I feel fine during and after I have these epidsodes (except for the abdominal cramps but even that is manable). but does anyone know if it were cancer would it come and go like that? (I know everyone is different and need to go to the doctor to really know whats wrong with me) I need advice from people that are going through the same thing, or any advice to what might be wrong with me, and who do I go see? and if I go to the ER would they beable to figure anything out for me? (I dont have insurance yet so its kinda hard right now) thank you so much for reading this and any help will be better then no help.
