I had this wild idea today (although I've had it before).  What if I became an IBS counselor?  Have no idea what it would take to become a licensed counselor, but is it really crazy?  I would basically work with people who have GI problems and give them a friendly ear, encourage them to find a good doctor, help them find diets or supplements that might help their guts, help them relieve some of their stress.

I mean, if you could go to a counselor who did nothing but work with people with GI problems (and money was no object), would you be interested?  I know a lot of people come to this board in order to have a friendly ear; so much better if it's in person?

I think that's a great idea! I mean docs help so much with getting us on the proper meds and helping us out when our guts decide to change on a whim like they so often do. But they are usually too busy to help with the non medical stuff that goes along with it. Like what to pack in an "accident" bag or even like today I asked my doc about non medical coping methods because I've been cut off from my meds( I love my unborn baby dearly but sometimes I can't wait till it's born because then I do something about my IBS other then just wait it out). Or even just to talk to because they found something that works so well that your guts feel better then they have in years. Or even taking over a church basement a couple times a month so that you can hold support group meetings. So many people have GI issues and I think it's still so taboo that people who need someone to talk to have no one really.
