I'm a 19 year old female and it has recently been suggested to me that I am suffering from IBS. I often get stomach cramps, bloating, gas, etc. and every now then diaahrea/constipation. I had a colonscopy last December that came out clear & fine. Anyway, this morning I kept on having to have bowel movements (not diahreaa) (sorry if this is TMI) and besides being annoying and having a little bit of a stomach ache it was fine. I only ate a couple pretzels for lunch so as not to aggravate it and took my hyomax and also some Immodium because I had a big presentation today and didn't want to have to run out in the middle of it. So about a half hour later I had one tiny bowel movement with some blood in it.
Now I have had one incidence several years ago where I was hospitalied for blood in my stool but at that time i felt EXTREMELY sick and it was A LOT and today i feel pretty much fine besides the usual cramping and the weird feeling I always get from Immodium. I also had blood in the stole about a month or two ago (just one incidence) and ended up feeling fine and not going to the doctor.

Can anybody please give me their best guess as to why this is happening? I'm guessing just the strain of having bowel movements ALL morning and I'm trying not to worry about it too much because of my normal colonscopy. What do you guys think?

Based on the info you've given my guess would be the blood may be comming from a hemherroid, but for peace of mind you could have a doc give you a rectal exam to confim if you have an internal hemmie or not...do you feel or see a lump on the outside of your anus (that would be an external hemmie more than likely).

If the blood is bright red, it has almost certainly come from a hemmroid.  While they usually bleed if you've been constipated and had to pass a hard stool, pooping too much, from diarrhea, can also aggrevate them.

If the blood is darker or black, you need to go back to your doctor, because that's a sign of internal bleeding--often by stomach ulcers, but maybe by intestinal ulcers, which could indicate UC or Crohn's.

Where was the blood coming from the last time you got so sick?

Bright red can come from issues in the colon or rectom too though (like with colitis)...but yes, dark or black blood usually indicates bleeding from higher up in the GI tract and is very dangerous and should be checked out ASAP.
