Go to your local pharmacy and buy a sitz bath. It's a simple plastic insert you use on any toilet. Fill it with warm to hot water, mixed a tablespoon or two of baking soda or Aveeno (the packets intended for full baths, for chicken pox, etc.). Aveeno is my preferred favorite. Soak in this mixture for 20 minutes several times a day. Keep towels handy, a box of kleenexes nearby for minor clean ups, etc. and clean clothing along with underwear to change into.
You might think taking a regular bath would help. It does but using one of these sitz bath inserts is better. By sitting in that position on the toilet I find that it opens up the irritated area, and you want this Aveeno to seep in and begin to heal irritated areas. Besides, it feels wonderful too!
Also, if you can sleep without underwear at night, allowing air to circulate around the area. Not be confined in tight underwear.
Topically there probably creams to use but I find that a sitz bath several times a day for several days in a row really does the trick.
