First my history, treated for vaginal cancer with chemo/rads 2007, then diagnosed with residual disease (localized, same area 2008), 2009 had more radiation in form of Cyberknife.
I have had a proctosigmoidoscopy which revealed typical radiation damage due to radiation treatment. I've also had MRI, PET/CT scan. I am scheduled for another PET/CT scan but that is just as a standard follow up test to monitor the area that was treated with Cyberknife.
I know alot of my issues could be put down to the radiation, but the more I research my symptoms (mucous in stool, sometimes feel I have to go and mucous is all there is, but there is "relief" afterwards", there is nothing wrong with my stools, they are regular formed and no blood and I seem to be regular with my bm's, but sometimes throughout the day I have "urges" but don't go and this drives me INSANE! Last night I ran to the bathroom thinking I was about to have ann episode of diarrhea, but mucous only came out, not alot, but boy did I feel a huge sense of relief back there!) I think I may have IBS as I can't think of everything at the moment, but the symptoms are there, just no diarrhea or blood.
I've added more fiber in form of Metamucil wafers daily and a Probiotic in pill form which I only started the past week, but I am noticing subtle changes for the good.
This may or may not be IBS, and may all be related to the radiation damage, but my symptoms fit IBS, it is just hard to find any info on suggestions for people in my situation. This is the closest to finding good advice, those who suffer from IBS as my symptoms are very similar. I have good days and bad. For instance, this past weekend, I woke up Saturday feeling completely normal like I used to and that continued through Sunday, and then Monday, BAM, it all starts bothering me again. I am currently off work on disability, and I believe that I having too much time to think about this issue makes it worse! LOL.
I'm sorry for the ranting, and I hope I am making sense. I'm sure I'll add to this as "things" start popping back into my minds. Any advice on how you handle your symptoms would be greatly appreciated.
