My 18 year old daughter has been told that she has post infectious irritable bowel syndrome. She has had a lot of tests done and has been on probiotics, Alinia and two anti-depressants but she still has bad stomach aches
after eating. She takes benefiber every a.m. Is there anything else that she can take? Her GI doctor asks like he can't really help her any more and recommends that we go to the Mayo Clinic which is about a six
hour drive from our house. She gets constipated easily but even drinks a lot of water every day. She got this after she went to camp for one week in NW Georgia.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, I have Post infection IBS since 10 years . It started with diarrhea and now I have mild. IBS-C, a lot of pain, bloating. I think probiotics are very important for PI-IBS.
Drugs which you can give her, depend on her symptoms. For Constipation , fiber or magnesium etc. For pain an antispasmodic etc etc. Tell us more about her symptoms.
MOst important, I would take a look at a healthy diet. This is really important. I didnt do that for too long and now I have 4 times more pain than when my IBS started. A lot of people with IBS develop intolerance on certain foods. These are not allergies so that the body react weaker on the wrong food. The Doctor cannot find out these intolerances. But you can to a doctor who work with alternativ medcine or biofeedback etc. etc. They can find this intolerance. I did the mistake that I listen to my gastro doc who told me that I can eat everything. And now I know better. I have a wheat and milk intolarnce. For years I didnt know that and I develop Leaky gut syndrom and inflammation in gut because I eated everything. After seeing a naturpath I changed my diet and my inflammation and leakgy gut is gone. But still suffering from horrible pain.

My daughter has had this condition for almost one year now. She did take the Align Probiotics for two and a half months but it didn't help at all. She doesn't have any diarrhea but is constipated a lot of the time. She does take benefiber every morning. She has been eating a very healthy diet for almost a year now. Fresh fruits and vegetables and fish, turkey and chicken and whole wheat bread. She can't have any dairy except yogurt only sometimes. She has stomach aches every
day except maybe for two days a month she doesn't have any pain. The two different anti-depressant drugs aren't helping either. Thanks for your reply.
