I am 19 and I have had wieght loss and constant stomach pain and nausea.

I had a colonoscopy and upper endoscopy and everything came back fine and they told me I have IBS.

Here are my symptoms:
Bloating
Gas
Stomach pain all over, not just lower
Nausea
Constipation
Weight Loss

My main issue is the stomach pain and nausea. I hate it, I cannot seem to have a day without them.

Do any of you have these symptoms?
How do you deal with them?

They put me on amitiza but I heard the nausea is unbearable and haven;t tried it.

I take Align (the probiotic) daily.

Please help. I can't live like this every day, I am in so much pain.

Thank you.

Hmmmm, usually weight loss isn't considered a sign of IBS (which I personally find odd, but that's what I've often heard/read).

Good tips for IBS sufferers (either D or C) is making sure you take in enough fibre daily (fibre supplements come in very handy but should be taken on a regular daily basis and indefinitely), regular exercise, avoiding caffeine, animal fats, processed foods/beverages, refined sugar, artificial sweetners (and sugar alcohols can be particularly hard on IBSers) and fast-foods. Drinking lots of water is essential as well. Good that you're taking probiotics, stick with that.

:)
My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it! LOL :)

Star13,
i am 18, I have all the symptoms you do, except the weight loss,
The nausea is the worst, i feel light headed and sick everyday, its so hard to be out when im constantly thinking im going to be sick, i lost my job as i took so many sick days off. And when i was in work i was running to the toilet all the time.
It's a NIGHTMARE.

There are a few people who have said that the doctor has said that theyre just going to have to deal with it, but i simply cant go on, i dont drive and when im on a journey on a bus i get off half way to vomit or just heave, its so embaressing.
Do you feel dizzy, lightheaded and shakey?

Is Align not working??
Ive cut lots of bad foods out which i know dont agree but even the things that do agree with me sometimes, dont other days.
It's a pain!
I really hope you find something that works, i'm trying different things so i'll keep you updated if i find anything.
Michaela.

Thank you both for your replies.

I think my weight loss is due to my loss of appetite and the nausea. When I feel nauseated I don't eat much, and since I am feeling sick all the time... well I end up not eating.

I do get lightheaded sometimes, but I never put it with IBS.. so that is interesting.

I never vomit though, in fact I haven't vomited since I was about 4 ha ha.

I am trying to keep a log of what I eat and what makes it worse but it seems that the random stomach pains and nausea is constant.

It is just so frustrating.

I've only vomited twice and i put that down to the heaving, i think i see it as a release so sometimes make myself sick in order to make myself feel better, but it doesnt work so i find myself swallowing all the time.

I'm going back to the docs in the week as he only give me mebeverine and its making no difference.
I feel better with an empty stomach so i usually dont eat if im going out the house anywhere. Which is hardly ever now!

I wish you all the luck in the world, as i wouldnt wish this feeling on anyone.
An hopefully you will find something to help.
Have you heard about colonix? I found a webpage www.ibsthecure.com, im hopefully ordering some soon.
I'll report back if i find anything helps.

Michaela.

I think weight loss is quite natural if you are diarrhoea predominant. As far as constipation goes, it could make you sick of food and so you stop eating which is what's happened with me.

People who haven't seen me in a few years fail to recognise me, so yeah tell me about.. :)

I usually take Psyllium husk every time I feel sick accompanied by LOTS of water. 2 spoons of honey at night though am not sure how much it helps. If its still there I get some one to massage my back. ROFL. It works for some unexplainable reason.

Hi star,

I just posted this under another topic, but thought it might help you as well. I also had numerous tests and they kept telling me everything was normal. It's so infuriating when the doctor talks like you're making up problems!! anyhow, the teas seem to be helping. Here is the info I posted. OH, also, if you have IBS-Diarrhea, you shouldn't be taking fiber. It won't make your stool solid, it will just aggravate the problem. It's too strong for your digestive system. The docs told me no uncooked veggies and no fresh fruit. Here is the post about the tea. I don't want to retype.
=p
Hope it helps.

....

I've tried the fennel and peppermint teas and the peppermint oil tablets from the helpforibs.com website for about a week now and they do seem to be helping!! I don't care if it's real or all in my mind, but I drink a cup before work and I don't get the awful stomach cramps like I was getting every morning. I mix about half fennel and half peppermint. I probably drink 2-3/day and I don't seem to be running to the bathroom or taking immodium as much. I recommend trying them. I thought it was probably another scam. I had tried over the counter peppermint tea and no relief. Not exactly sure what is in these specific, but seems to be helping.

My parents and friends think I am just imagining all this stuff as well, it is really frustrating to not have the support to get you thru the day.
People who don't have it just don' understand what we go thru on a day to day basis.

I just bought some peppermint tea the other day. I am going to try that now. I am more IBS C but I bet it would at leat help with my stomach pain and nausea.

I am going to check out that website, thank you for the info!

Does your stomach constantly make wierd bubbly noises?

Mich308 - do you have an email address or anything? If you dont want to give it out I understand but I jsut think we have a lot in common with this thing and it would be nice to have a support system.

Hello girls,

IBS is also awful for the other people in our lives because they also have to live with our problem. I don't see how your boyfriends could think you are faking when they see the pain you are in. Maybe they just don't know how to deal with it....some men like to be able to fix everything. Also, they are just built differently and might not be suited for the "caregiver" type of role. I know it takes a LOT for my boyfriend to live with me running to the bathroom 10x a day not to mention the way it ruins dinner, vacations and pretty much any outing requires extra planning. It's a lot to ask of anyone. Is anyone else frequently in a bad mood? I need to work on ways to not be upset or in a foul mood often, but it's hard when I'm in pain and feel sick most of the day...

Now if you're talking about the doctors and people in the medical field not believing you, they should be trained and able to deal with IBS patients. I sat and had a specialist tell me I should "just keep taking immodium when you feel bad". Gee thanks for the help!! When I got my chart from that office to bring to another specialist, it read as if I were exaggerating all the problems that I had. Why in the world would anyone make this up??

Anyhow, it's so hard to live with this on a constant basis. It affects every aspect of life from relationships to work to just taking a walk!!! I hope you girls find someone strong enough to understand and support you and I hope someone finds a cure for IBS so we can all live in peace.

Hi mareliza,
Ive found that i am in a bad mood, I put it down to the fact that i have lost my job, im bored, skint, and when i do go out i'm coming back home within an hour because of the heaving and shaking. I'm trying not to let it get to me that much, ive been running everyday to keep myself busy, feel if i run early in the morning im alot happier through the day and feel energised.
Yeah coming on here doesn't really give me any faith in relying on Doctors.
My mum used to complain about her IBS she said that i might get it one day as it seems to run in the family, wasn't expecting this, i didnt think it was half as bad as what im going through right now.

Honestwomen, can i ask what pills it is you are taking for the nausea?? the constapation i can deal with as its on and off.

I am starting to try running as well, its hard to do everyday but the days I do it, I feel pretty good.

Yeah I am interested in those nausea pills aw well, anything that gets rid of that is a miracle drug!

I do get in a bad mood, especially when it is at its worst and people just tell me its all in my head, thats what really sets me off.

I never realized how many things are linking to IBS.
