What foods are good for probiotic bacteria? The beneficial flora supposedly help us break down some of the foods we eat. Which foods are good for them and which ones are bad? I.e do they eat sugars or starches or fibers of some kind? Do they not like fats or preservatives?

Any responses or references that can help me out are much appreciated, thanks!

Inulin is a "prebiotic", it's supposed to feed the good bacteria. I use it because it is inexpensive and mostly fiber, plus, it tastes good in plain yogurt.
