This is the only forum where I thought I may get an answer.

As the topic said, I haven't had a movement in 2 weeks.  Yes.. nothing at all.  I don't feel the urge too, either.  I've tried all my usual remedies.  Laxitives, caffiene, apples and even beer!  Nothing!

Now I should tell you that all my life I have gone 4-5 days w/o a BM and it was quite normal.  This however, is not.

The last time I had a BM was the 8th and I had tremendous intestinal spasms.  Extremely intense.  I can only describe it like labor pains.  First the spasms began near my rib cage and with each spasm it got lower and lower until I felt the need to go.  Then there was really no pushing.  It just came out normally.  Then the spasms would come again.  This happened 3 or 4 times of pain and then BM.  I had never experienced this before.

Today is Friday and I'm wondering if I should call my doc to get a suppository for the weekend?  Should I?

If it makes you feel better to have a suppository for the weekend then call the Dr. Sometimes I find it I just have the meds in case I need them, it helps me relax a bit and don't even end up needing them.

Have you ever had an attack so bad that your face, tongue, throat and neck go numb? I do this and it is difficult to swallow.

Hope you have a good weekend!

I was backed up once for 3 weeks. It was awful. I tried miralax and it gave a few small ones like you have experienced but it didnt help.

I was in terrible pain so I went with an enema. It worked wonderfully. It took 3 of them to get me completely cleaned out (I did one each day).

Hope you find some relief.

Aloe Vera Juice works like a charm. You can get it at CVS or any vitamin store, whole foods. You can take it every day to keep you regular and you can drink as much as needed.

With the exception with those few hard balls on Friday I've had nothing.  No cramps though but I swear I've got 10 lbs of complete bloat.  If nothing happens I'll wait til Thursday and call the Dr again.

I had the same problem! I paged my doctor yesterday and asked if I could take another dose of miralax and he said go for it. I had taken 3 doses in 24 hours--but the last two were yesterday afternoon and same evening. Today: FINALLY movement (after a cup of coffee) and I had D, 6 times in 1 1/2hours. I'm still bloated so.... But good luck!

Hello Everyone, well I spent all day yesterday and the night and today in the hospital...had to drink more yuck, Lacutlose,  Go Lightly, but it finally worked.  So they said to see my specialist about a colostomy, so that is my next move....hope everyone is well.  Leslie

How long do you go before they hospitalize you?  it's going on 3 weeks now.  I think if they would have just given me the suppository like I asked for in the first place instead of an OTC med I would be cleaned out by now.

At any rate, I'll be calling the dr again tomorrow and I'm a little worried.  I don't want to be hospitalized.

OMG I know how you feel I had not gone for 19 days...but get your doc to give you some Go Lightly a prescreption or try some Citirus of Magnesium.

I didnt eat only but a few bites last night so I would feel good today ...this morning I feel wonderful so I have a lot to get done because I have not felt this good in a year.

One of my docs says that a colostomy is such a big surgery,  he is a little gun shy but he says its probably my best chance.

I know how painful surgery on your intestines hurts from my colon resection and this one is bigger.  I hate to think of all the pain I will have to go through after the surgery, its a dark lonley place and no where to get away from the pain untill it desides to calm down.

I hate surgery but I have had so many painfull surgeries and just dont want to have one more but if I will feel better the rest of my life I am willing to go through it.

So you all have a great day and good digestion....

Happy as a clam today....Leslieyeah

Ironically, I'm quite the opposite of what you've suggested.  lol  No, I've never taken laxatives before.  I remember as a child going for weeks w/o a BM and sitting on the toilet so long that my legs would fall asleep.

All this started actually when I was giving up caffeine.  I gave it up in my soda and was mixing half reg and half decaf coffee.  I decided to keep my coffee the way it was cause I had zero energy.

I had also cut out all the high starch foods.  Pasta, bread, potatoes, etc.  I was only eating meat, fish, fruits and vegetables.  For the past 2 days I had a small portion of starchy carbs.  (mashed potatoes)  Today I had the best poop I've had for over a month.  Dr Oz would be proud!!  I feel a LOT better!

I'm suppose to go tomorrow to talk to a Medical Research place that has a IBS Clinical study right now. They pay for all the test including colonoscopy, so I'm thinking it's worth a try. I have so much bloating, every thing that I eat no matter what bloats me. When I sit down for a meal I get full very quickly, and after eating just a little I feel bloated. Tried eating fruits, veg.....still feel constipated. Hubby says this is by no means normal, it's just become the norm for me. I'm not a big person anyway, I'm 5'7 129 lbs. I can only imagine if I had normal bowel movements how small I'd be. Trying to exercise more to help with stress and maybe the IBS. Wishing you all the best with this terrible disease.

Blessings,

Cindy :)

If you haven't talked to a doctor yet about this you should go pronto. You could have a bloackage or something and that is TOO long to not go. Especially if you have blood also, it may not be serious but it can be for sure.

Concerned once again.

Before the constipation began, the last time I had a BM I had a lot of cramping in my intestines moving down until I began to expel.  Now after a few "normal" BM thanks to miralax at least  a week ago I thought I was in the clear.  Not so.

Today I again cramped horribly and kept going and going.  Soft and as Dr Oz says, the perfect consistancy.  I swear to you I had to flush twice and I got on the scale to see a 2 lbs loss.

I also have another symptom.  When I eat I can feel the food going down into my stomach and it;s very painful.  Liike sharp pieces are going down my esophagus.  You know, after all these tests I'm just so tired. I don't trust my gastro Dr and I'm  so  afraid of even telling them for fear that they'll think I'm a hypocondriac.  This really sucks.

Has your Gastrointerologist ever bothered to figure out WHAT WAS CAUSING your CONSTIPATION? Probably not.  My father has Ulcerative Colitis & GERD, my mother has IBS & GERD, my brother has Barretts & I have GERD. We are all on different medication. Prilosec, Nexium, Protonix, and Prevacid.  Yup, bad genes.  And, my little 9 year old daughter was recently diagnosed with GERD after suffering from hearburn, stomach aches, reflux, SEVERE constipation, gas and indigestion for years.  cry Pepcid & Zantac did nothing. Finally they put her on Prevacid 2 mos. ago.  It helped a little, but not much...she still had stomach aches, gas, SEVERE constipation and still had reflux at night.  The first GI Dr. added Sucralfate at night & the reflux finally subsided a bit.  But, she was still constipated (went once every 4 days at the most - always little balls) and she still had severe stomach aches and TONS AND TONS OF GAS!! Also, Sucralfate causes constipation!! I FIRED her Doctor and found a new one!!  After a (normal) ultrasound and blood work, he ordered a "modified lactose breath hydrogen test." It tests for lactose/sugar malabsorbtion or BACTERIAL OVERGROWTH OF THE UPPER INTESTINES or ANYWHERE ELSE in the digestive tract. I thought he was nuts confused because after reading about BACTERIAL OVERGROWTH, it made no sense. She was not thin, she did NOT EVER have diarrhea, nor did she suffer from malnutrition. WELL, HE WAS RIGHT!! SHE TESTED POSITIVE FOR BACTERIAL OVERGROWTH!!! Yippie!! Finally, a diagnosis AND a cure!! He put her on a high dose of Flagyl (a strong antibiotic) for 10 days to DESTROY ALL of the bacteria (even the good ones) in her entire digestive tract. Now she is taking VSL#3 to restore the right bacteria to the digestive tract.  She's only been on the VSL#3 for 4 days and guess what? NO STOMACH ACHES, NO REFLUX, NORMAL BMs EVERY DAY (which she doesn't like...LOL) AND NO GAS, NO MORE CONSTIPATION!! tongue She started to get better on her 6th day of the HIGH DOSE of Flagyl, and has been getting better and better. Thank God...I can sleep through the night again.  Poor little darling.  Well, needless to say, the Dr. thinks the BACTERIAL OVERGROWTH caused the reflux AND the stomach cramps/pain AND constipation can cause BACTERIAL OVERGROWTH!  She even had pain in her esophagus.  AND she said she could feel the food going down when she ate!!  I'm not a Doctor, but I'd be willing to bet that you have NO digestive bacteria left in you esophagus, which is caused by BACTERIAL OVERGROWTH elsewhere in your digestive tract. Your problem is probably bacterial overgrowth in your stomach, which destroys the bacteria needed to digest your food in your esophogas.  Also, do yourself a big favor and try Colace (a stool softener) every day, instead of a laxative.  I've been taking it for years.  I feel GREAT!!  Also, it helped when I switched to Protonix (Prilosec was KILLING ME,) and I also switched to Klonopin from Xanax.  Well eventually, my little girl may no longer even need the Prevacid in the AM or the Sucralfate at night.  Oddly enough, my father said he had the exact same problems as a child, but they had no test back then.  And, if BACTERIAL OVERGROWTH goes untreated, it almost always causes Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn's disease.  So this is NOT a coincidence in my opinion.  My Dad has Ulcerative Colitis. IMPORTANT! CONSTIPATION CAUSES BACTERIAL OVERGROWTH AND BACTERIAL OVERGROWTH CAUSES CONSTIPATION!! You should DEMAND THE TEST!  All you have to do is drink some sugar & water stuff, then blow into a different bag every 15 minutes for about 4 hrs.  They label the bags and if there is a hydrogen "spike" in one or more of the bags based on the "time" you blew into the bag, they can tell right where (in your intestinal tract) the problem is, if there is one.  If there is too much bacteria in a certain area, it causes excessive amounts of hydrogen (gas) to actually go into the lungs from the digestive tract.  And too much bacteria causes the gas.  If it isn't expelled, it causes constipation, gas and/or pain.  It's not an invasive test and it could be your answer.  I will keep you posted as to how she is doing.  P.S. If anyone has Ulcerative Colitis and reads this, let me know if you would like a list of "what to eat and what not to eat."  My Dad has been in remission for over 55 years.  His colitis has been under control due to "his" diet only.  You'd be surprise what you can actually eat!!  He has it down to a science.  Good Luck. turn smilewinkgrin

SO THE BEST THING THAT WORKED FOR ME IN THAT INSTANCE IS TO MAKE SOME MILITARY COFFEE... U KNOW, COFFEE FILLED ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP OF THE FILTER! IT IS A NATURAL LAXATIVE AND YOU CAN ADD SUGAR AND CREAMER AS WELL IF YOU WANT TO... IT WILL AT FIRST MAKE YOUR STOMACH CRAMP BUT THEN YOU WILL BE HEADING STRAIGHT TO THE BATHROOM... I DON'T WASTE MY MONEY ON THESE EXPENSIVE "REMEDIES" WHEN I HAVE COFFEE IN THE HOUSE! SURE IT IS EXTREMELY STRONG EVEN WHEN YOU MAKE HALF A POT OF IT BUT IT DOES THE JOB AND YOU WILL KNOW WHEN TO STOP DRINKING IT AND IF YOU DON'T JUST WAIT TILL U HAVE TO GO #2.... HOPE THIS HELPS YOU ALL! idea

Just put some water in.
( Watch out for the temperature! you dont want to get water too cold or hot you dont need any more damage!)
I've never done it untill one day I realized I haven't took a crap in 2 weeks.
ever since then if I have any problems I use this method, really solved all my problems ^^.
