I have had what i think is IBS for five years. I do not have to go to the bathroom more than once a day but after I do I am crampy, bloated and have stomach problems for 2 - 8 hours afterward. Gatro dr says it is a spastic colon. My feet actually hurt afterwards, something my gastro dr has no explanation for. Back in 2008 he gave me a prescription for Hyoscamine . I tried it for a few days and it did not work. Back in late December I found the bottle and decided to take the rest of it to see if it worked. I also took Griffonex 5 HTP which has serotonin it at the same time. In a week my symptoms were gone. I was stunned . I am not sure if it is the Hyoscamine  ort the Griffonex or combination of both. However, I looked on the internet and noticed that Hyoscamine is no longer available. I was devastated. Do you know if there is another drug comparable? Maybe it has been th Griffonex that is helping.

Hyoscamine did not help me either and I took it for a month, plus my insurance would not cover it.  But then nothing has helped me at all, so good luck to you.

Hyoscyamine is still available under the name Levsin or NuLev. Another similar drug you might want to give a try is Donnatal, Belladonna Alkaloids. I thought Donnatal worked better than Hyro but it wasn't perfect. Hyro worked for me okay for me sometime but it always gave me a headache about an hour after taking it.

I just started taking hyoscyamine today for the first time.  I have been living with this painful eating problem for several yrs, having colonoscopy every 5 years with no sign of disease, so I just figured it was stress.  After 2 visits to the ER, I figured it was time to get a diagnosis.  Have another appt tomorrow with MD as a followup to see how I have been doing.  Not much has changed, but the pain is less severe.
