Hello Everyone,   I am seeing a doc about a colostomy.  The thing is,  I am a single woman who would like to meet a man to spend the rest of my life with.  But if I have this surgery done what man is going to want to be with me?  I dont know how men are going to view me or how I would even bring up the fact that I had this done to me.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated....maybe I am just putting undo stress in my head.....

(popping in from the UC forum)
Is a j-pouch an option for you? It's where they create a little pouch out of the end of your small intestine that collects the poo, and you still have relatively normal bowel movements, in terms of not having an external bag. They are quite watery (because you no longer have a colon to absorb water), and many people who have them have a bowel movement each time they urinate, but it's not urgent, and it's quite quick. Many people who had colectomys due to UC have j-pouches.

Also, there is an ostomies forum here on healing well if you want to talk with other people who have them.

I am not sure what option they are going to give me  but to answer your question No, I can never go to the bathroom.  My nerves and sphincter muscles on the outer rectum are clamped down so tight and the inner one is not working very well.  I dont get constipated like other people with hard bm's...they are always soft but the air in my intestines will not let it come down and my muscles will not move anything.
Always sick every day....
