(popping in from the UC forum)
Is a j-pouch an option for you? It's where they create a little pouch out of the end of your small intestine that collects the poo, and you still have relatively normal bowel movements, in terms of not having an external bag. They are quite watery (because you no longer have a colon to absorb water), and many people who have them have a bowel movement each time they urinate, but it's not urgent, and it's quite quick. Many people who had colectomys due to UC have j-pouches.
Also, there is an ostomies forum here on healing well if you want to talk with other people who have them.
