Stomach and Throat, please help.

I went to my doctor with a severe headache that lasted about 2 weeks (new years to jan 14th approx.) and diarrhea (about 5x in 1 day).
I was also feeling very lightheaded and dizzy, and feeling like I was going to pass out. as well as severe exhaustion.

I was diagnosed w a sinus infection, and 'some sort of infection' around mid jan.
I was given Fluticasone nasal puffer.
I was also told to take Claritin for 'allergies'.
I was given amoxicillin for three days, when my stomach started hurting.
I was switched to doxycycline for 7 more days.

I went in and they and my dr. told me the infection was gone. The stomach condition continued, and got worse.
After another week of stomach pain, he referred me to a gastroenterologist.

diarrhea continued for another week or so, but I am normal currently.

I took an ultrasound, blood sample, stool sample (checking for Giardia, something I cant remember and H.Pylori).

about the same time I stopped the Doxy, my neck glands and throat started to feel swollen, no pain, just swollen, minor discomfort when swallowing. (I reada little on Dysphagia, and that sounds about right, only no pain)

I am waiting on results from the Stool sample, the ultrasound only showed that I had 'more than normal' gas in my upper abs.
intestines. I am pretty gassy, mostly burping and passing gas and what feels like indigestion, though only very minor heartburn after eating some refried beans, which happens to me most of the time anyway.

that was last week. I have been mostly eating Activia, bananas, rice and added some yams and sweet potatoes the last two days.
My stomach feels a lot better but still very bloated.

I added in some broccoli sprouts for dinner tonight.

The mornings had been the worst, with severe nausea and fatigue. This morning was the first time I wasn't nauseas, so I skipped the Claritin hoping to reduce the amount of 'x-factors'. I felt decent today, but my big concern though is my throat, everything I have read about post-infection IBS never mentions throat or glands.

What is going on w me?

PS - I had an appendectomy in August (09) and I only bring it up bc that is the spot that the stomach pain first started, though it feels ok now.

Well most of us on this forum are believers in the saying - you are what you eat. This is so true. Especially for me. I know what foods to avoid and what foods that are soothing for my gut.

That said, my first suggestion is to start a food journal. Any ordinary notebook will do. Designate a page for each day and record every single thing you eat, drink, if you took other meds that day (vitamins, pain meds, antibiotics), if you were under a lot of stress that day, etc. At the bottom right hand corner, record that day was a great, good or bad day. These simple one word notes will be helpful if you want to flip back thru the previous days and weeks to find a great or good day. Then duplicate that given day by eating the same foods you did that day. After a while you will hopefully begin to see a pattern begin to form. In time you will know what food groups to avoid.

Next if you're trying to eliminate or greatly reduce gas, avoid beans, brocolli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, onions, peppers, cheese, milk. Also do not use straws with drinks, stop chewing gum if you already do. At each meal, chew your food completely, slowly and with your mouth closed. For a dinner beverage drink water but only a few sips to wash down the solids. Later in between meals you can drink a full glass of water, etc. Avoid carbonated beverages such as soda, beer, etc.

You can perform a google search on what foods to avoid to reduce gas. But that's a short list above.

Thanks, today is the best day yet.

Yesterday I ate several very small meals of Yam, banana, rice, broccoli sprout and Activia and that seemed to help overall.
I have been keeping a food journal for about a week, I use Google Calender.

Sounds like the antibiotics caused a fungal condition. The good bacteria along with the bad was wiped out, allowing yeast to overgrow and proliferate. Foods you are eating (sugar in form of potatoes, bananas/grains-rice) are feeding the yeast...bloating, gas. Sinus infections are most times fungus-related (studies by Mayo clinic) and are helped with antifungals, not antibiotics. Does your activia have artificial sweetners?-splenda,sucralose/aspartame?
My advice- probiotics, natural antifungals like caprylic acid or olive leaf extract, and reduce/eliminate sugar (high carbs) and grains for a time.
