Does anyone have any feedback on VSL#3? Someone recommended I try this for my IBS-type symptoms and I would like to hear if anyone has any good/bad feedback on it. Also, I see it comes in a capsule and sachet. Is one better than the other? Please help me out. Thanks all!

I recommend the sachet. I feel so good that I'm on this and believe it's helping to keep me in remission -- for ulcerative colitis. I don't know if it will help irritable bowel syndrome and if you want to invest the money in it. The cheapest I've found it at is Costco. $65 for 30 sachets. A good probiotic can't hurt. This one is steep in price.

My GI advised me to take it, and said that the mix of probiotics was the best available.
I was able to find capsules, but they can be difficult to locate. I found them on-line, but I don't remember where, sorry!

I think it is very good. I take it too. I have a prescription for the double strength and it is $45/20 packets with insurance, so it is expensive. Sometimes IBS can be a mixture of problems, so the probiotics may not cure you but they will help things get better faster. I have IBS and IBD, so it really gets complicated. Most of us in modern times have taken antibiotics so often that we are very deficient in good bacteria from what I read. I believe the packets have more bacteria in them than the pills. Good luck to you.

Does anyone know if there is a time of day that this is recommended to be taken? I ordered the unflavored so am assuming there is no taste to it. I am planning on mixing it with water. Is that right? I am going to start taking it tomorrow so everyone please wish me luck! I REALLY hope it works well; I am getting anxious to see the results!! If anyone can help with these few questions I would appreciate it!

I have another question....how much water or liquid do you mix with one packet? Sorry for being so thorough; I just want to make sure I am doing this properly to get the full benefits! Thanks :)

To the healing well community: why didn't someone warn me that the unflavored VSL#3 has one horrific taste to it? I mixed it up this morning with water (well it didn't really mix all that well because of the corn starch in it). As I was mixing it; I could smell what wasn't so pleasant so knew right there I was in for a rude awakening! I used a straw and plugged my nose thinking that would help and I was wrong! OMG was it awful; I gagged terribly. This stuff better work magic for the next 29 days I have to do it. Thank god I only ordered 1-30 pack of it. I think my next round (if it works of course) will be the lemon flavor. Come on people; you need to fill me in with information like this!

If anyone cares; I went and got a few different fruit juices to try and mix with it now. I sure hope that helps with the taste otherwise I might not get so lucky!

P.S. Since no one responded to my questions; I figured them out myself. If anyone else is looking for this information you mix 4 oz of water per 1 packet. Also, it does not matter what time of day you do this; it is equally beneficial anytime of day.

I believe the package insert recommends putting the packet in some applesauce or yogurt. I tried it in some chocolate soy milk and talk about nasty!!!

I have been using VSL-3 in the sachet form for IBS and I find it very helpful. I do feel better when I take it. I take one sachet per day, mixed with anything cool or room temperature (heat destroys the cultures). The sachets are not that convenient to use: i have to stop what I'm doing, cut open the packet, pour it onto applesauce or yogurt or whatever, then into the mouth. I think it would be easier to take in pill form and most people would be more likely to actually take the pill rather than hassle with the packet. Doesn't matter how much liquid or cool food you mix it with. I called the manufacturer and they said take it any time of day with any cool food. Do not take it with hot food--heat will de-nature the organisms. Good luck!

My gastroenterologist recommended VSLIII and it's wonderful--I had been taking another probiotic for some time and I understand you become immune to one after a long time and it doesn't hurt to change. I take the capsules (2 each morning) just because it's easier and I don't have to try to get a liquid down early in the morning when I sometimes have nausea problems. Walgreen's orders it for me and it's about $42 for a bottle of 60. I would strongly recommend it. Also, please check the website Helpforibs.com The girl who writes it (Heather) has suffered from IBS and knows what she's talking about. Lots of good information. a CD that's wonderful and recipes that are "IBS friendly". although one day I can eat one thing and be okay and the next time I eat it, I can end up in the bathroom for hours. I do avoid red meat, chocolate, dairy and spices and I'm not even sure that helps any more. It's very discouraging. Hope this helps.

Really? 4ounces of water with one sachet of VSL3! I haven't come across that anywhere. Can I ask where that information came from?

Thanks
