I have a question, and I know this site isn't for giving medical advice, but i'm wondering if anyone else got diagnosed with the same thing I did.  I had a colonoscopy a year ago, and along with having irritable bowel syndrome, they also found diverticulosis.  Does anyone know if diverticulosis is a part of having irritable bowel, or is it just something separate on its own?   Also, can being under a lot of stress make irritable bowel worse?  Between work and dealing with an elderly parent, i'm under a ton of stress and I wonder if i'm making my problem worse.

Two different conditions. But some people have both.

Do you have consitpation type IBS?

They are not really connected, but can effect each other if you have a flare of either.

Age can play a part in Diver, not sure how old you are.

Being under stress is a comnmon trigger for IBS.

There was just a new study about nurses taking care of people had higher IBS problems. They thought do to stress, I will post it if I can find it again.

Stress could also effect the diver as well.

My IBS has both diarrhea and constipation. I take Lomotil when I have a really severe bout of diarrhea. I don't like taking it because it makes me very woozy, but when I have a severe diarrhea attack, it comes with a lot of pain and nausea and I take the Lomotil to stop the attacks. I am in my fifties, and I don't know if that helps. It does seem over the appx. seven years i've had IBS, it seems to have gotten progressively worse as I age. Also, another reason I don't like taking the Lomotil is a day or so after taking it, I get instant constipation. It's a vicious circle.

I have also have both... but even when I have diarrhea it is still constipated diarrhea. I started going to a GI specialist in 2005. I have been recently diagnosed with Pelvic Floor Dyssynergia. I have had chronic constipation for as long as I can remember. I was diagnosed with IBS in 2005, and was put on Zelnorm. Zelnorm helped, but a month later I had some chest pain, not sure if it was related to the meds or not, but Zelnorm has since been pulled off of the market. May- June of 2010, diagnosed with Pelvic Floor Dyssynergia, after completing both stiz marker (balloon tests). I am just SO tired of it. I am in chronic pain, bloated constantly, and just sad. In September 09, I moved back to my home city, and since then the constipation has gotten so bad. I have gained weight due to the lack of energy, and just feeling like crap...literally. which makes me not want to eat as healthy as I used to. I get the urge to go to the bathroom, and have really bad pain, but nothing ever comes out. currently I am on a suppository every night, and 2 senna laxatives, and 1 stool softener, and 17 grams of Miralax every day. I also take magnesium citrate drink every 5 days. I am also going through physical therapy - biofeedback. I have been doing it for about once a week, for about a month so far. The only thing that has changed is my awareness to my issue. I am still keeping positive about the therapy, because I feel like it is still new. on Monday when I went the machine registered incorrectly, which kinda freaked me out a little, therapist, just told me that the machine was picking up my abdominal muscles. I am just so frustrated. I was told to not completed my ab workout, and target muscle strength, but can continue to do cardio. in Sept of 09, I used to be in great shape. Six pack, and 122lbs. Now, not nearly that weight, and def no six pack. Do you have any suggestions on how I can get my motivation up? I am a young 30 year old woman, and I just feel like I am in a rut with all of this stuff. I am just fed up. Just reading what you had wrote helped me. It is nice to know that someone else has similar issues as well. Do you do anything special to get your mind off of it? You had said you have noticed it has gotten worse with age, do you have any tips on what I could do to prevent, or slow down the progression? anyway.. it will be nice to hear from you or someone, if anyone would like to comment. thank you. =)
