I've struggled with diet, etc. for 11 years now but lately I think I've finally found my specific solution. May 1st, I began taking 80 billion count of probiotics on a completely empty stomach at bedtime. I noticed my gut was quieter and my bm's more consistent. Then I got into a scary time 2 weeks ago. I wasn't exactly constipated but knew I needed more fiber. So I began having wheat bread (basic wheat, not whole wheat, I have enough sense not to go high fiber, yet that is!), Whole Grain Cheerios, more fruit and taking two 50 mg Colace a day (one in am, one with dinner). And continued with the probiotic.
Whatever it was - a combination of all these - I have been feeling great for over a week. I had suspected for a while now I could add more fiber to my diet but since I work 9 months a year (school district employee) I wanted to wait for a more quiet time to try adding fiber.
I have been very diligent about all of these - more fiber, more Colace, never skipping the probiotic.
Keep your fingers crossed for me I may have stumbled upon what works best for my gut.
I do know I'll never be "normal" and will always have multiple bm's 24/7, as long as I eat. I am existing without a sigmoid (where my cancer was located). My entire goal in 11 years has been to have formed bm's, not messy, not difficult to pass, easy to take care of anywhere - public bathrooms, someone else's home, even portalets (yes I've used them!).....
I feel on top of the world right now. Sure hope it continues......
