I really am not sure where to post this, so I apologize before hand if I'm in the wrong forum topic here.
Anyway, I'm having a few issues here...currently, I have not had a bowel movement for about 5-6 days now. The last time I went, it hurt to go and it came out too large and I was in pain for a bit. The days after, I could not go whatsoever no matter how much I tried. I refrained from straining too hard as I don't want to cause any problems that way, but I am starting to really worry here, I have been drinking a lot of water, and took Ducolax stool softener to try and see if it will help. Currently, i am on the second dosage of it and still nothing. I do have the urges to go, but when I go to the bathroom and sit, the urge goes away, or I end up straining and barely anything comes out. I just turned 19 and my insurance is expired now. There is no way I can afford to see a doctor at the moment nor can anyone help me pay for this. I would like to know what else I can do because I really don't want it to become a serious health issue.

Thank you.

As a note, I also suffer from anxiety so that may be the cause and unfortunately, I have not been eating healthy lately so that may be the cause of the constipation, but I'm worried why it hasn't gone away yet... shakehead

Aww, so sorry to read you're struggling like this. I know others will have better answers for you, but right now I would suggest lots of walking (even if just in your apartment/house), eating fruit (even canned is good, especially pears since they act as a laxative), added fiber such as wheat bread, bran cereal. I would try forcing yourself to relax, close your eyes, take deep breaths, imagine a calm place you like, etc. I do not struggle with on going constipation but when my IBS symptoms are out of whack, I do a lot of pretending (silent pep talks, that everything either is fine or will be, in other words mind over matter).

I hope you feel better. But for today, try walking, eating fruit, etc.

Marsky, gave you good advise. Try those things and see if they help.

If it does go on much longer your gonna have to try and see a doctor somehow and that's important.

Let us know how your doing.

Anxiety can contribute to not going as well.

Thank you both for the helpful information. I went to the doctor yesterday and they did some x-rays and other tests and it turns out, I just have a lot of stool near...uhh...the exit, so they gave me an enema to see if it would help...I tried it, and I didn't go until this morning. However, I'm still feeling a bit constipated (as I have A LOT in me) so they also gave me magnesium citrate. I'm hoping that once I get the urge to go later, I can; I've read some horror stories on Magnesium Citrate and I'm a bit afraid to take it. Anyway, I may end up doing so, but if anyone has taken this before, is it really as bad as people say it is?

Thanks.

Good you went to the doctor.

Shouldn't be a problem taking the Magnesium Citrate  once to clean out. Afterwards get some good probiotics.
