Hi
I am going through tension h/a relief and am now having gastro issues.
Had CT scan in Aug that showed infection, diverticulitis.
Another CT scan since the discomfort was not really gone...this time diagnosed as infected lymph node.
Got more antibiotics and pain med for that.
A month goes by, the pain is still there.
Another CT scan and the dx was mild diverticulitis.
I finally got an appointment with my gastro doc and he ordered another CT scan!!!!
I am probably going to glow in the dark soon.
The results of that last CT was negative for anything.
He told me since my colon has many diverticuli, the exact location of a definite problem area can't be pinned down so I am always going to be subject to infection and discomfort.
Told me I have a spastic colon and gave me Bentyl to take as needed.
The pain is still happening, not the pain that makes you curl up in fetal position...but it sometimes is in the lower left side of the abdomen and sometimes it is closer to the groin which is lower yet.
I manage to have movements that are not quite firm and sometimes just D.
I guess my question is, why wouldn't he just diagnose it as IBS?

Another ailment to ponder along with the h/a and pins and needle pressure in my head.
At least the Amitriptyline is helping with that.
Sorry to go on and on.
Hope everyone is ok and having as a nice of an evening as they can.
It's 6 pm here in sunny Jacksonville, FL

Why all the x-rays and no scope?

I agree that if you haven't had a scope yet, then it might be a place to start. It will give the doctor a better view as to what you are dealing with. My GI hates CT scans because it can not always show the clearest of pictures.

Why did he not just diagnose you with IBS? - I can hazard a guess. 1) he did not do a complete work-up that rules out all other causes of your bowel issues, therefore cannot say IBS. IBS is a diagnosis most often made by ruling out all other causes of bowel issues. 2) You have diverticulosis.

This is just my personal opinion, but having 4 CT scans in the last 8 months is really not good. CT scans expose a person to a lot of radiation. Studies have shown the cancer risk is much higher in those that have lots of CT scans. http://abcnews.go.com/WN/radiation-risks-doctors-warn-patients-undergoing-ct-scans/story?id=9657846

Hi
As far as the number of CT scans within a short period of time, I have asked myself the same thing.
I do have a consult coming up and will def ask the GI doc about that.
The pain eases off and that Bentyl is helping even if I split the pill in fours..........it's too strong to take just 1 whole pill during the day. Makes me groggy and really drys out your mouth.
Thank you for the replies and I will post more when I have something from doc.
Hope everyone is doing well....I am trying to convince myself that this is not bad and I am not in doubling over pain and can still manage to go to work and do some things that many others can not....So, I tell myself to keep thinking postively and just worry about each day one at a time..............God Bless us all and I am soooooooooooooo thankful for this forum and the chance to meet some terrific people who know what we all go through as we deal with our illness.!!!!!
