My HIDA scan come back abnormal---they are considering surgery next Monday----I want so badly to get back to normal---have had so many tests which came back negative but HIDA came back abnormal----just don't understand pain on my left rib cage ---maybe it is musculoskeletal because it has bothered me for the past five years ----have nausea and intermittent diahrrea---can't eat much----blood work, pancreatic enzymes, CAT scan, abdominal ultrasound---all normal---does anyone relate---I have posted before and had wonderful responses from 3 people---I guess I don't want to go through surgery unless I am sure this is my problem----

If the nausea was every day, and the pain went away, I would say you have the exact same thing as I have.  My HIDA showed a lazy gallbladder, got it removed, gallbladder showed mild chronic inflamation upon removal. No nuasea for about 2 weeks after surgery, normal bowel movement for the first time in 4 years, the pain never went away, and now the nausea is back, not as bad, but still very bad at times. I would recomend getting it removed, and keep me posted because you are the first person i have talked to that have what may be the exact same symptoms.

So glad you wrote---just returned from my gastro doctor who is doing an endoscope tomorrow---he says definitely have low functioning gallbladder but wants to make sure there is nothing we are missing---do yu have pain in left ribs, between shoulder blades and slightly in front? My pain isn't present most of the time---just this darn nausea and diahrrea once or twice a day...my gastro doc says he doesn't think the diahrrea is caused by the gallbladder---I am just so confused and terrified each time a have a test that they will find something horrible---how old are you? what part of the US do you live in?
I am so sorry you are still having nausea---that is the ABSOLUTE worst!----I will let you know what transpires----in the meantime, you are in my prayers.....Lilly

Hope your scope went well Lilly. You have been through so much, I hope that they are on their way to helping you feel better. So your doctor doesn't think the diahorrea is caused by the gallbladder probs?? I had a bile salt malabsorption test when I started with nausea and diahorrhea as my GI said that can be the cause of both. Has this been mentioned to you??
I hope that you get some good advice from your doctors as to whether to go ahead with the surgery or not.
Keep in touch and let us know how you are getting on.

Take care

I am so darn confused---hasd the scope---showed inflammation in my stomach--gave me Dexilant to take for a few days and said eat normally---if I get better, casncel surgery for awhile---if not, go ahead with the surgery---of course, I was so out of it from the drugs and my husband doesn't do very well following doc's orders---so I guess I will call him tomorrow---actually, I think the diahrrea is absolutely the gallbladder because it start normal---then just like yellow bile---I am so glad he didn't find anything terrible but I have never been this sick with the nausea and fear of eating most things---what do you think?-----guess I will call my GI doc tomorrow and then my surgeon and get their takes on it---thanks for taking the time to listen and respond---lilly

My pain is in my lower left, so maybe we don't have the exact same thing, but pretty similar. 26 year old male, in Washington state. Sounds like if they found inflamation in your stomach then you have some gastritis, my mother had that after her knee replacement surgery. And it will cause nuasea the meds she got for it cleared it up in about a week. Not sure what that medication was.

The question I would ask the dr. is why your stomache got inflammed. You had a lazy gallbladder like i did, and when the took my GB out it showed that it was chronically inflamed, through my research if your GB is inflamed it can cause inflamtion to surroungding organs/nerves. Do you constantly have a nagging right shoulder?? If you do there is a nerve that runs right by the gallbladder and goes up through your right shoulder.

Also, with a lazy gallbladder, your bile will stay in your gallbladder too long because it is not being used or flushed out as regularly as it should be. The stale or old bile then can become a toxin to your body, which can result in constipation or the runs. Any headaches??

Sorry a blab on about this, but I like to be as educated as I can, and after four years of dealing with this stuff, I feel like i know more than my Dr.s at times. lol. And try not too worry too much about results coming back as something horrible. I'm not a dr. but i would feel pretty safe in saying its not cancer, or something like that. They probly ran some blood tests if you had cancer and you were feeling this horrible you would be in an advanced stage and it would show up in blood tests, normally. Instead, hope they find something, becuase then you will know what you are up against, and they can start the correct and best treatment for you. Best of luck!!

Thanks for the insight---I have decided to get the surgery because the one thing that did come back positive was my HIDA scan---I took the prilisec drug today and still have the nausea this afternoon and that heavy feeling in my chest and between my shoulder blades---on and off pains in my left rib area---feels almost like gas pain----

I did ask the dr. what would cause the inflammation---he said it wasn't significant inflammation so it could be stress or just a little too much acid---do not have the nagging right shoulder but did have a week of headaches a few weeks ago when all this started and I never have headaches-----no headaches anymore---I go back and forth with the bowel issue---did you have diahrrea sometimes?
I spoke with my internist this afternoon and he said go ahead and have the surgery---I already cancelled for Mondaybecause the gastro dr. told me to try the Prilosec type med for a few days-- will see the surgeon Tues....hopefully he can do it soon afterwards

I have had IBS with all diarrhea for 20+ years. None of the meds my gastro doc put me on helped. Immodium A-D daily helped more than the scripts. In April I had a severe gallbladder attack and had emergency GB rmoval. Doc put me on Questran the week after surgery beause I had diarrhea 3-4 times a day. It helped initially but by 4th week after surgery diarrhea was back and was having 1-2 BM's after each meal. 3-1/2 months after GB removal i am still having 1-2 BM's after each meal, mostly diarrhea. I have an average of 6 BM's a day, mostly diarrhea. I have lost 25 lbs since GB removal. Surgeon is puzzled as to why Questran isn't working. I go back in 3 weeks for another follow up. He said if not better by then he will refer me to a gastro doc. I think gallbladder removal causd the IBS to worsen. (My gallbladder was nearly 3 times normal size and had more than 150 stones in it...nurse stopped counting.) I don't think gastro doc will.have a solution either since last time I sAw a gastro doc there was no solution. Am very tired of not being able to go out to eat because I sometimes have to literally run to the bathroom during the meal. Just tired of all of this. Anyone else have these problems?

So sorry you are having all these problems after gallbladder surgery-----there are many meds for the diahrrea but I am not sure of the names---my oldest son had to have his gallbladder removed and they tried him on a few different things and one finally worked.....so just keep trying---he had your same prblem ---he stopped going to parties or any event where he couldn't have access immediately to a restroom---He owns his own business and actually added a new office with a private bath just for him because it was so embarassing to him---good luck--I haope you find something which works----

yeah i would be constipated for a few days and then I would have a mass dumping at the toilet. I do have to go to the bathroom within a half hour of eating now, but it is pretty regular now. And the transderm scopolamine patch the dr. just gave me helps a little bit. they use it for sea-sickness mostly, but it has been shown to help IBS patients with bowel issues and nausea. might be worth a try. Im on day three and they at least take the edge off most of the time, and no other anti-nausea med has really worked for me before.

hey lillye and ibs_sucks i really would love to talk to you guys via email or screen share about your stories cuz i am going through some serious pains that are similar to lazy gallbladder ... i had a hida scan almost a year ago that said i had a low function GB and they said to oparate but i said no and wanted to wait to get another test cuz other doctors were like the hida scan doesn't mean crap ... i was fine for about a couple of months went on a low fat diet then starting about 6 months ago no matter what i ate i felt bad then as time went on it got worse and now i am to the point where i can't eat anything without feeling like i am going to throw up or have gas that can last for literally hours ... anyway please go to my profile and email me when you can ... i really would like to speak to someone who has been there instead of some doctor who says ... i don't see anything so nothing is wrong.
