Overcame IBS (honestly!) :)

It took gumption and determination (after suffering from IBS for over 15 years) but I finally took my daughter's advice and stopped eating ALL GRAINS for 6 weeks. I mean all. I do not mean gluten-free (a lot of baloney advertising goes into that one) ... I mean I stuck to meat, veggies, and fruit (and occasionally a square or two of dark chocolate) for 6 weeks.
No more stomach pain. No more bloating. No more sprinting to the bathroom with rocket-like diarrhea.
I would suggest ibs sufferers try this, but you can't go about it half heartedly, (or cheat and claim you 'didn't eat this or that'...)
I am not saying its EASY because it is NOT... but if you get to the point where you are so sick and tired of having to miss things and having your life messed up with ibs... then think about giving it a try.
For 4 weeks I did not even eat one bite of ANYTHING that had ANY kind of grain in it...then during wk 5 I included a little brown rice with success. BUT FIRST you have to detox your system. That was not fun either...Now I will eat brown rice and pasta made of quinoa.
I cheated and had a piece of cake at a baby shower and pd dearly for it the next day or so... but this was after 2 months...
I actually felt PROUD of myself that I MADE IT!!... no excuses to myself... before I always cheated then said 'it didn't work' ... you can fool others but not yourselves.
So, if you want to go grain free, good luck! You will feel better all the way around once you get past several weeks of detox. Non organic grains are some of the most chemically poisonous foods people consume. But eating 'organic' grains will not clear up ibs.

I did the same.... but my food was meats ,chicken fish veggies (low starch) and some fruit (only berries and grapefruit.. As well good probiotics and YEAST killers caplyric acid coconut oil etc..

back to normal ....good to hear !!!!!
would live to chat and compare stories -- many bash what I have to say

THANK YOU for responding... So wonderful to read your success story... and you see, I know and BELIEVE you and am happy for you... and yes, you are right. Many people do not LIKE success stories...
I know I have to 'be careful' what I say here to not get people's dander up (some not all) ...
In my case, and it probably came through, it was finally about being so disappointed in myself for not having the guts and self discipline to stick with my grain free diet... and going through the detox of getting poisonous grains out of my system took awhile and sometimes I almost gave up. But my daughter kept encouraging me to stick with it, and I found a few encouraging articles that kept me going. For awhile, constipation became my problem! THAT was totally different... but I kept drinking kefir and kvass, and additional probiotics plus psyllium husks and finally it leveled off.
My son in law works with a fellow who is a technical genius and he was diagnosed with severe diabetes...but he refuses to change his dietl..he would rather opt to give himself shots 3 times a day ...and keep drinking his same amount of beer and eating a poor diet... whereas my son in law totally changed his diet and started in exercising and even his dr congratulated him and was shocked Drew was NOT taking those dangerous pills but succeeded with a strict diet and exercise.
ANYWAY...just want to encourage people it can be done but not saying its easy...

Good to hear your success story, My problem is I am having sleepless nights with all the gas problems, I don't know what started it, the biggest problem I have is, a pressure in my butt area when I sleep at night, that wakes me up and then I eat lots of fruits and drink warm water, and empty my bowls, then pressure goes away. Gas sometimes is like just a big wind coming out and there is no smell to it. Please help.

I am wondering if you have tried taking a good probiotic...like PB8...because I believe this might help you... It doesn't really pay to get the cheaper ones...
It sounds like your bowels might be overrun with bacteria... yogurt, kefir, and a good probiotic should help this...it will take a couple of weeks. Cut waaaay back on sugary foods of any kind because that is what bacteria feeds on.

Bettsann -- for me I spent thousands to get answers.(in the end Im happy).. advanced allergy tests , fecal tests.... advanced bacteria level tests -- advanced yeast level tests.. both in urine and stool as well blood.

For me I found the grains messing me up to start.. depending on what genes one carries , beer and grains can wear down the lining .. it does this in all people, ALL of us. In some its far more faster.

I learned what foods entered/ made my immune system react , I removed them. I learned what bad bacteria I had overgrowth.( what killed it... advised by the labs) I also learn I had bad over growth of yeast... docs dont look at yeast.. they laugh at it. there are advanced labs that look at both BACTERIA and Yeast and realize you can have a problem with both. my lab told me to take nystatin for 3 months and diflucan for 1 month... no regular doc would do this... they have no clue...

I found that many of the foods I was reactive to , Im going to say one--- feed my over growth of yeast and feed my bad bacteria. It also didnt help my gut barrier was worn down. once this happen your screwed.. and in my eyes why everyone needs medicine to begin with.. as food proteins and yeast /bacteria are hacking there way in. giving you the flares and health problems. your taking the meds not to fix this....but to stop the reactions-- turn off the immune system

for me I focused on removing all the foods my immune system stamped as bad....( it is said you can later re introduce them and relearn to eat many like a baby learns for the first time) as well worked on building my gut barrier. Once I felt better in that area and also saw results from testing , I worked on killing the yeast. You heard me YEAST first before bacteria..... I went through hell.... headaches, pains in joints , nasal drip , sinus problems , diarrhea constipation.. a fistula /abcess. I say I created the abcess , as I can say as the problems moved down my belly it ended up in my rectum. I always had hemorrhoids my whole life. I ve taken all those meds steroids etc which helped but they always came back. I had surgery for them 5 times banding , cut out etc ...they always came back..

After I worked on the yeast -- I started to slam myself with good supplements -- ones free of rice corn soy, milk, nuts and starch.. lanolin based vit d3 -- b complex free of what i said... not to feed yeast and krill oil soy free. and took large doses of probiotics( 100 billion to 150 billion - free of rice soy grains starch and milk) and ate REAL vinegar free german sauerkraut. things only got better.. I have to say where I think the problem is YOU WILL GET FAR WORSE before better. where many loose hope This happen to me as my system flushed. I got the shakes , headaches ,, flares etc. from what I read , you also flare as your body is try to rid it self of nasty stuff.. I ate lots of Julian paleo bread which is all psyllium husks-- which you know is like a puffing sponge that rubs down the colon sweeping out yuk stuff. I choose the no drug route ...and got yelled at by all my GI docs.. today all my docs are lost... I didnt eat anything they told me to eat.. as I found it to actually mess the stomach up more , plus I figured out what my body was reactive to in advanced testing. The allergy office is NOT the place to go for this.

I may get a flare in the future as everyone says you never cure crohns or colitis ... but I dont think so.. as I now track everything more closely in testing .. I look at my levels of yeast vs bacteria..

When I felt good I ll give an example--- my lab said you have way to much CLOSTRIDIA bacteria you need to get this down.. they said you need to take bacteria lactobacillus GG it will eat away at it... I started that probiotic adding it with my other .. with in 3 days I flared bad... it was like someone dumping water out of me... this went on for over a week.. I stopped the probiotic with in 4 days I thought to myself what the hell did i do.....i was doing so good,,,, now this.

later 4 months later when I talked to the lab they said oh boy,,,, this is some what normal... as your body was dumping and releasing it. They said most likely the dose was to high and I should have cut it back to one third. I later added this back in .. smaller dose and no problems a little runs here and there , then gone.. Its been an exciting experience for me..

today -- I have almost no yeast .. detected my good bacteria is up 3x my bad bacteria is lower...
I have a HIGH Akkermansia over 13 percent... the avg person has 3 to 5 when your sick it drops lower in mouse studies ... I did the american gut project and I have a make up not like many... you barrier bacterica is high... I have more Genus way more Bacteroides then Firmicutes --- the Firmicutes in high amounts you are usually more obese and have inflammation. today I have super low inflammtion markers in the C reactive protein and my Lysozyme enzyme for GI inflammtion is a 97 when i was sick it was a 1310... normal is below 600 as well my lactoferrin score was a 0.5 normal is below 7.3 when I was sick it was a 15.8

my ph is a 7 now was a 5 before

I produce SCFA short chain fatty acids

acetate
propionate
butyrate
valerate
all in good levels now.. so Ive been happy ...

from my whole experience .. and learning what I learned , I think this dude is spot on

doug kauffman... with his phase 1 diet and phase 2 its some what like SCD removing the hard starches grains etc ... which feed bad bacteria and yeast. ass well SCD focuses on fixing the worn gut,.

Doug goes further and says the causes are yeast... and his diet goes further and addresses many of the SCD foods but also foods that dont feed yeast /fungus which a doctor doesnt look at .. I would love for many to try his diet and see what happens

Watched a number of videos... I do feel he knows what he is talking about!...especially in cases where ibs and other related digestive problems are in a miserable state.
I cleared up my ibs problem *(which included the Feel Sick and hard to describe sick feelings) by simply eating meat, fruit and veggies... did not exclude yams and sweet potatoes... and I know which fruits and vegs 'feel better' to me...
So...it was only when I started in 'cheating' with things such as cake or pastries (or that session of mac and cheese) on what was becoming 'consistently cheating') did I start to develop problems again. I just have to be sensible and relax about what I am doing... otherwise being overly strict will simply mean there is a good chance of self-sabotage... So with me: my motto is just 'I know what is and isn't ok for me...and easy does it'...:)

IMPORTANT PS: You CANNOT 'get away with anything' by thinking just eating several bites of a no=no food will not hurt you. IT WILL and you will NOT detox your body. Being extremely honest with YOURSELF is the key... its easy to lie to others and fool others by saying you are 'really being good'... but you KNOW inside your heart if you are staying on the straight and narrow. There are many people, sad to say, who would rather deal with the terrible problem rather than to self-discipline themselves... because it gives them sort of a 'strange identity and a feeling of communion with others who are suffering' ... and keep saying "I've tried everything but nothing works".... Been there...done that...can see straight through anyone who tries to convince me of that. nono
