I was wondering if anyone has taken Miralax & have they had any success with it for constipation. I usually take Lactulose, buts its making me very gassy & my Doctor thought this would be a good change. Please keep me posted!

Thanks, KIm

Hi Kim,
Wow, we don't talk much about Miralax (mostly because most of the members here are IBS-D) but it has been brought up a few times today. :) I am one who takes it and have had success. This was after going through fiber therapy, zelnorm, stool softeners. Those either didn't work or had many side effects. I was scared at first when I heard it was a laxative but it is not a stimulant laxative so its not supposed to have long term adverse effects. I have cut down my BM lag time by over half and I go much easier now. You may get gassy at first but its not the trapped kind of gas, you will be able to release it. Please let us know what you decide.

Thanks for the reply. DO you know about how long it takes for Miralax to begin work? DO you take it in the AM or PM? Over the past 2 months I have had some bowel problems. IT started out with pain on the right side, then now, I feel like I am not going all they way. I was on Enulose(Lactulose) for 15 years, so maybe by body is just too used to that. I am scheduled to have a colonoscopy next week,. I am not sure what they look for in that, but I sure hope they find whats causing my problems. Have you ever had a colonscopy before?

Hi Kim,
I take Miralax in the AM and it started to work about a week after I started taking it however everyone is different. My constipation was chronic as I was going every 7-10 days so you might not take as long to respond to it. I'm glad to see that you will be having a colonoscopy. It answers a lot of questions and puts all doubts to rest. They look for IBD, diverticulosis, polyps and overall visual health of your colon. I have had a few in my time and they really aren't that bad. The prep is the bad part. What has the doctor told you your options are for the prep? If you can get the pills, I would recommend it.

The only thing that has worked for my IBS C
is going vegetarian/vegan
I never thought I could
plus I loved food too much
then my symptoms were so bad that it was the only way
miralax, zelnorm and other drugs just weren't working

medications for me were a huge waste of $ and never worked long term
it took about 3 years for me to get used to it but I don't miss beef, chicken, pork, turkey, cheese, dairy

Good luck
